Train passenger gave up a scenic window seat for a couple — but they spent the next two hours doing something that left the commuter frustrated
A window seat while commuting is all about the view, and many would call themselves lucky if someone offered the spot. A Reddit user who goes by u/GentleGerbil had the same idea and decided to give up their seat so a couple could sit together. After sacrificing that wonderful view, the person was baffled to see how the rest of the trip turned out. Sharing on December 28, 2025, they mentioned how they were enraged after seeing what the duo decided to do on their journey.
I gave up my window seat so this couple could sit together and they’ve spent the entire 2 hour trip in the dining car

The passenger gave up their window seat so that the couple could sit together. However, the two never sat in the spot and chose to spend the next two hours in the dining car, keeping their belongings in the space instead. The person grew frustrated since they felt like they missed out on the scenic view for nothing. What made it worse was that the duo seemed to be looking for a spot when they got on, as per a comment. Seeing this, the commuter chose to be generous, only for it to go in vain. In another update, they revealed that, after a long wait, they decided to move the man's jacket and take back their seat. They also noted that the strangers didn't return for as long as they were on the train.
The Reddit post won hearts online, with many users commending the traveler for standing their ground. u/JohnnySalamiBoy420 wrote, "This is the update we need. I'm so tired of people getting bullied on public transportation." u/BrianTheBlueberry remarked, "Seems like a win to me." u/dunnodudes said, "That is generous of you. Thank you for being a considerate person." People who take kindness for granted or act like they're entitled to it need a reality check. In another story, a woman named Ishika Yadavalli was traveling with a business class ticket she had gifted herself after graduation, when a fellow female traveler requested that she swap her seat for one in the economy section so her daughter could enjoy an upgrade.
The mom had received a complimentary switch and hoped her daughter could join her. However, when Yadavalli politely declined the request, the mother became more persistent. She mentioned how the woman was young and should be understanding, before adding that the ticket was likely not even purchased with her own money. This offended the student as she had paid $7,000 for the seat. When she refused to budge, the parent called her partner and complained that the youngster was not helping her, as if she was entitled to it. The situation later needed intervention from the flight attendants, who told the mother that the seats could not be swapped.
