Traveler refused to move from another passenger’s seat to sit beside her boyfriend — her next threat got them both removed from the flight
Flying means sharing a small space with people you may not know, so a little patience and consideration can go a long way. But sometimes, all it takes is one passenger to make the journey difficult for everyone. Threads user Karli Von Herbulis, who goes by @karlivonherbulis, shared an incident aboard a JetBlue flight in a post dated Monday, November 2, 2026. She described how a woman refused to sit in her assigned seat and then went on to threaten other passengers in a way that got her kicked off the plane along with her boyfriend.
Herbulis explained that the trouble began when she found a woman occupying her booked seat. The passenger wanted to sit beside her boyfriend and became irritated when Herbulis asked about her assigned seat. Although Herbulis offered to switch, provided the crew approved and she could keep an aisle seat, the couple refused to follow the seating arrangement. They moved to the row behind, but the flight attendant later asked the boyfriend to return to his assigned seat. The woman then threatened to cough on nearby passengers, claiming she was a "germaphobe" and that they would "need masks." When a supervisor accompanied the flight attendant to address the threat, she denied making the comments and became agitated. The crew eventually asked her and her boyfriend to leave the aircraft.

Herbulis was relieved by how the crew handled everything. She said the flight attendants didn't get into a shouting match or make a big scene. They simply dealt with the situation and got the couple off the plane. In fact, she was so impressed that she made a point of praising the crew, saying JetBlue should be proud of how they handled the passengers. Once the couple was gone, she said the flight to New York was much more pleasant. People in the comments were just as pleased with the crew's response. @drsparklesstaug joked, "I don't think she knows what 'germaphobe' means!" @lightorchard added, “I hope they enjoy Greyhound and Trailways buses for the rest of their lives.” Meanwhile, @premkudva said, "That's just awesome work by the crew to toss them out."

The crew saved everyone on that flight from having to spend the journey dealing with a passenger who clearly wasn't willing to cooperate. Seat disputes can get surprisingly heated on flights, especially when passengers expect others to give up their assigned spots. In another incident, a man spent nearly two hours arguing with the crew because he wanted to sit next to his girlfriend. The situation got so disruptive that the pilot eventually made the unusual decision to turn the plane around just 30 minutes before landing and return to the airport to have him removed.
