Walmart worker lauded for standing up to reckless shopper downgrading him for ‘not doing anything’ on lunch break
Employees at every job, be it at corporate or at supermarkets, deserve to be treated with respect. Shoppers need to learn how to treat retail workers and be sensible in their interactions with them. A Walmart worker, who goes by @skylouieeeee on TikTok, shared a distasteful encounter he had with a shopper. The rude customer was pestering him despite being off-duty. When she called him out for not working on his lunch break and kept condemning him, he had a fitting response to render.
“I’m this close to switching to Target because at least the customers over there are more civilized than the ones here,” he remarked out of frustration. He recounted the time he was on his break and went over to the store for something. He encountered a shopper at Walmart who requested him to guide her to the section where Christmas decorations were placed. She further asked him about the decorations being out of season and therefore being 75% off. The young man obliged and confirmed her words. Despite being off work, he chose to help the woman but she was ungrateful about the discount. “Then why is everything that I got in my cart overpriced?” she asked, showing him the products priced around $30-$40.
The employee politely let the woman know that he wasn’t aware of the same. “I was like I don't know and she went, ‘What do you mean you don’t know? Don’t you work here? Don’t you work in this department?’” he recalled. When the man let her know that he worked at the back of the store and not in the said department, she refused to consider it. “She was like, ‘Since you work here, pull out your phone and help me change the price because this is not 75% off,’” he recalled. Despite explaining to the shopper that he didn’t have a printer on him and couldn't just change prices on his phone, the woman was adamant.
The customer asked him to go up to customer service and get the work done for her. She immediately changed her mind and demanded he assist her with customer service since “You’re just walking around doing nothing.” Hearing this, the worker was a bit disturbed. He immediately responded, “Ma’am, first of all, I was supposed to be on my lunch.” He went on to take out his phone and check the prices and immediately let her know she was in the wrong and that the discount had already been applied to the products. “The fact that she said I was doing nothing is beyond me,” he wrote in the caption.
People related to the dilemma of having en entitled customer. Others applauded him for being stern and humbling her. @reapercrew86 said, “Sorry bro, move on. You deserve better.” @gownou noted, “I hate to tell you this but no matter what retail store you’re at, it will be the same customer interactions. Every year and every season. It’s just the truth. @toastgirl16 remarked, “I would have taken the item, gone out front, set it up halfway and walked back to my workstation.”
