Wife explained her Christmas traditions to Brit husband when he dropped a surprise name for Santa Claus — and Americans think is 'unreal'
Festivals might look different in distinct cultures. However, an American woman was quite surprised when her British husband revealed the Christmas traditions his family followed. She was especially stunned when the man told her what they call Santa Claus in England. The couple also discussed many other aspects of the holiday that were different in each country. The woman, Paige Wester, who goes by @p_west_ on TikTok, shared the video with the platform. The video received over 171,100 views.
Paige revealed that she was American and her husband was British. The couple had realized that they celebrated Christmas in very different ways. The woman pointed out that the American people called Santa "Santa Claus" and the British called him "Father Christmas." Both of them were surprised that a Christmas character, who played the same role, had such different names. "When Santa comes down the chimney, we leave him cookies and milk and carrots for the reindeer," Paige explained. On the other hand, leaving carrots and mince pie for Santa was customary in England. Paige said that she simply couldn't accept that a mince pie was left for Santa. It was "supposed" to be cookies and milk. Christmas dinner also looked different for the two countries, according to the couple.

"Here, they do a very big turkey Christmas dinner. In America, turkey dinners are reserved for Thanksgiving. On Christmas, most people do ham," Paige added. Christmas crackers were also a big thing in England, according to the couple. They are mostly used during dinners. A Christmas cracker is a cylindrical object meant to be held from both sides and pulled apart. It pops and a paper crown and other toys come out of it. "I had no idea that such a thing existed," Paige shared. In America, people also wish each other "Merry Christmas," but in England, "Happy Christmas" is a more common greeting. "That just sounds unnatural," Paige commented. In school, recreating the "Nativity" play, or the story of Baby Jesus, was a common thing in England.
"We never did that. In America, you can't mix church and school," Paige pointed out. "So that would never happen. Unless you are in a private school." The caption read, "Father Christmas, who is that?" People shared their thoughts on the video in the comments section. @sadmax48 wrote, "OMG, you slated absolutely every single tradition that was important to your husband. Just because his traditions are different from yours, it doesn't make his wrong or yours wrong." @life_of_odd_socks commented, "The US is about 30 years old. You cannot s*** on anyone's tradition when you're that young."
@yellow_keeper.wyatt remarked, "Me personally, my family goes for lamb and chicken, specifically a lamb leg." Paige clarified that it was just fun banter between the couple as they learned each other's vastly different Christmas traditions. The woman often posts videos highlighting the cultural differences between the two countries on her page. In one video, she pointed out how she pronounced names differently as an American person when compared to her British husband. In the caption, she said, "My dream of naming one of my children Wes (because of my last name) is now ruined because Alex can't pronounce it properly."
