Wife took British husband out on errands to prove Americans are 'not lazy' — and proved the opposite instead

Every aspect of life in a country might be affected by its people and culture. So it can be quite a culture shock for someone to move to or visit an entirely new place. A British man felt the same way when he visited the US with his American wife. He felt that Americans were "lazy" after seeing the everyday lives of the people. So his wife took him out for errands to prove that they were not "lazy" but big fans of "convenience," according to a video shared on November 4, 2025, by the wife, Paige Wester, who goes by @p_west_ on TikTok. The clip received over 2.1 million views on the platform.

"My British husband thinks that Americans are the laziest people on the planet, but I just think we like convenience," Paige began. She took him along on an errand, and they did not step out of the car. The couple was out with their child and went through the drive-thru bank first. The woman felt that the idea was "genius," and her husband agreed. Paige explained that she didn't go to the bank very often, but whenever she did, she chose the drive-thru. The family was hungry after that, so they stopped at a McDonald's drive-thru. "Because it is the most American thing ever."

Paige remarked that McDonald’s in the U.S. felt far superior to the one in England, with more choices and a noticeably different taste. She joked that the flavor probably came from the lack of strict food rules. She also mentioned that running errands in America didn’t feel complete without country music playing, and her husband was taken aback by how many American flags they saw along the way. The family also had a bunch of clothes they wanted to donate to Goodwill, so they stopped there. Usually, a person comes up to the car to collect the donation bags. But the British man was so "mortified" by it that he quickly got out, removed the bags from the trunk, and walked up to give it to the person.

The couple went to a coffee shop for their next stop. "99% of coffee shops have drive-thrus in America," Paige explained. "In England, it's the total opposite. Most of the places you have to go in to get your coffee. And I am a mom. I just don't have time for that." They also visited a library to pick up books for their son, and it was a drive-thru as well. One could simply pick up and drop off their books there if they wanted. The family didn't have to pick up any medicines, but if they had to, they could have done that through a drive-thru pharmacy. Many people in the comments section of the video had thoughts on America's drive-thru culture.

While I understand the need, it seems rather sad." @camaki6 shared, "Too much convenience is anti-community. No community means more isolation. Fewer contacts with other humans or nature/outside means more miserable, depressed, lonely people. This is how people become less empathic with each other. Such a nightmare."
