Woman asks first-class passenger to switch seats for her friend two rows back — one blunt response, and 20 minutes later she’s in the last row instead
A polite request also means being willing to accept a polite refusal. A Reddit user who goes by u/Stealthytom shared a post on July 15, 2025, about an encounter they witnessed between a woman and a fellow passenger. The latter was seated in the first-class section of a Delta Air Lines flight, but the lady claimed that her friend was two rows behind. She requested the traveler to switch seats so that her buddy could come up and sit with her. When she seemed uninterested, she pestered her, only to receive a logical and bold reply that made her quietly give up her seat instead.
After requesting the passenger, the first-class traveler moved on to ask other people whether they would be willing to trade places, but none agreed. With no other solution and a determination to get her friend up front, she approached the first person once more. “So you won’t switch?” she inquired, adamant about receiving a clear response. The passenger replied, “I'm sorry, but I paid more to sit here. Suggest you ask someone who's seated in the back.” Without further escalation, she got back to what she was doing, prompting the pestering woman to go away. 20 minutes later, the seat swapper had no choice but to go back to where her pal was and give up her first-class spot instead.
The woman explained the situation to the passenger, but she didn’t want to engage with her, which should have been a clear indication that she didn’t want to switch. Yet, she circled back with a question that seemed entitled. It would likely annoy anyone, especially someone who had paid extra for a more comfortable trip. The problem was that the lady expected a stranger to give up a premium seat, so she and her friend could have a relaxed arrangement. Even commenters suggested that when a flyer makes such a request, they should be the ones willing to compromise, not the other way around.

A little appreciation goes a long way when someone gives up their own comfort to help someone else. In another instance, a woman chose to be empathetic and gave up her aisle seat to a “large” man who accidentally booked a middle one due to some confusion. However, as soon as she agreed, he turned to the crowd and said, “Sorry, I had to wait for this lady to move out of my seat."
Seeing how entitled he was, claiming her spot as his own while making her look like the bad guy, she decided to get even. Every 10 minutes, she got up from her seat, forcing the rude passenger to move so she could pass. Every time he got comfortable again, she stood up once more, asking him to unbuckle his seat belt and let her through. It likely would not have happened if he had simply been thankful instead.
