Woman called cops when an FB Marketplace seller blocked her after she refused to enter their home — what neighbors revealed was chilling
It's crucial to be vigilant when dealing with strangers from the internet, especially when you're purchasing something from them or meeting them in person. TikTok user Rachel Anderson, who goes by (@rachelanderson471) found a vintage mirror she liked on Facebook Marketplace. However, after reaching the seller's address, she refused to enter the person's home. Her next move made her call the cops immediately. On May 31, 2026, the woman explained how her intuition saved her from something potentially horrifying.
Anderson loved the vintage mirror she found online and immediately reached out to the seller, who provided her with an address. When she reached the place, they asked her to come upstairs because they were occupied with some work. The buyer immediately grew suspicious and refused to enter. Instead, she told them that her son could help fetch the item. Immediately, the lights upstairs were turned off. Within seconds, the woman was blocked from every form of contact, and the listing was taken down. Unsure what to make of the situation, she decided to go home and call the non-emergency line to share the details of what unfolded. When they went over, no one answered. Later, it was learned from one of the neighbors that the house had been abandoned for six months.
Reflecting on the situation, Anderson noted that it was her first time shopping on Facebook Marketplace. However, the experience left her feeling terrified. Sharing the story with her TikTok followers, she wrote, "Be careful on these sites. I'm afraid this could have ended really badly for me." According to a report by Payments Dive, Facebook has been cited as the "worst" in terms of safety, putting several users at risk of online fraudulent transactions. As per data shared by CFA's March Report, 57% of scams originated from the app. Soon after the post was shared online, many users expressed their concern and thoughts.
@Chow2019 wrote, "I'm on Marketplace. Report them. It lets you rate the buyer, and the buyer can rate the seller. I'm so glad you're okay." @Loretta commented, "I've sold things on FB marketplace, but I never have anybody come to my house either. I usually meet up somewhere like a public place, like McDonald's or Walmart." @jessvlej shared, "I typically won't even engage if they don't have a selling history or a decent rating. At least on FB, you can check the pages of those you're messaging for listings."
