Woman could barely walk after drinking at a bar at 2 a.m. — she ended up at a group of college men's house and later discovered what had happened

Strangers approaching a drunk woman and her friend in a dark alley in the middle of the night might sound like the start of a frightening story. But for Instagram user Lauren, who goes by @motherthemothernj, the encounter turned into something unexpectedly heartwarming. On October 7, 2026, she shared on Instagram how a group of young men stepped in when she was drunk and sitting in an alley with her friend. The men did something wholesome when she was at her most vulnerable, giving her a reason to be grateful to them years later.

In her early 20s, Lauren had gone out to a college bar with her friend and was supposed to be the designated driver. After having a few drinks that she believed had been spiked, she suddenly became so unwell that she could barely walk. Around 2 a.m., the women ended up sitting in a dark alley beside the bar, with both their phones dead and Lauren in no condition to get herself to safety. That's when a group of college guys approached them. One of the men looked at her friend and warned, "You cannot be here," explaining that it was unsafe for them. Her friend was overwhelmed and didn't know what to do, but the men didn't leave them to figure it out alone. Instead, they carried Lauren to their off-campus house, brought her water and bread, charged their phones, and called her parents to come get her.

Years later, Lauren is still grateful that those were the strangers who found them that night. Lauren's parents arrived around 3:30 a.m. to pick her up. She vaguely remembers one of the guys carrying her out to meet them and telling them where to find her car. Her dad drove the car home while her mom took Lauren and her friend home. The guys had made sure the two women had a safe place to wait and that their families knew where to find them.

Even years later, Lauren still thinks about that night whenever she hears stories about women being harmed. She knows how differently things could have gone if they hadn't run into those particular men. "They potentially saved my life," she said, adding that things could have ended in a completely different way if someone else had found them. What's especially striking is that Lauren can't remember the men's names or what they looked like. She doesn't know if they even remember that night, but she has never forgotten what they did for her. She also can't stop thinking about how those men understood that two women alone in a dark alley weren't safe and stepped in to help.

We may not always realize it, but sometimes the kindest people are the strangers who step up when we need help the most. In another story, a woman had drunk too much and passed out at the bar. When she woke up, she found herself in an unknown apartment on a couch. The next thing she knew was that three college students who knew her from the bar had taken her to their apartment. They left her a blanket, water, Gatorade, Tylenol, clean clothes, and even a waffle with a note. They had also moved her truck to their parking lot so she could get home safely. Although she couldn't remember their names, she never forgot how thoughtfully they treated her. Like the young men who helped Lauren, these three strangers ensured that she was safe when they could have chosen to walk away.
