Woman deleted songs from a playlist her date spent five years building — her reason made him end the night immediately
There are boundaries to be followed, especially on a first date where two people are still getting to know each other. A Reddit user who goes by u/Best-Pirate5073 shared a post on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, revealing how he ended his date with a woman after she tampered with his music playlist. He had spent five years finding and curating it, picking tracks based on his preference, only for her to delete a huge chunk of it within minutes. When he asked her why she did so, she gave a response that left him feeling disrespected and annoyed.
AITAH for ending a first date early after a girl deleted half of a playlist I’d been building for years?

After matching with the woman on Bumble, the duo had a good conversation online. They eventually decided to meet for drinks and enjoyed each other’s company. Later, they were driving to grab a bite when she asked for his phone to play music. A few minutes later, he saw her deleting songs from the playlist. “I asked her what she was doing, and she said the playlist was ‘too soft and feminine’ and ‘not masculine enough for a guy,’” the man recalled. She went on to add her own picks, and he was enraged. He told her he was ending the date, and dropped her off at her car.
“She seemed surprised and a little offended. Said I was overreacting and that it was ‘just music,’” the post read. However, to him, the connection was over in an instant. He restored whatever songs he could, but the fact that she ignored his boundaries and tried to dictate his playlist and choices was a deal-breaker. The platform Bumble itself suggests that people need to draw a line somewhere while in a relationship. Psychologist Dr. Jaime Zuckerman noted that you should cancel a date or excuse yourself if a person refuses to respect a boundary. Therapist Ness Cooper added that what’s more important than rules is to listen to your gut and make a call accordingly.
The man noted that he lost all interest in her after what she did. Without a doubt, commenters agreed that the woman had no business interfering with his playlist, especially on a first meeting. u/Final-Yesterday-4799 said, “It’s one thing for her to not like the same music, but to decide that you don’t get to listen to it because she doesn’t like it? That’s presumptuous.” u/imbored3469 mentioned, “She crossed the line. You dodged a bullet.” u/BeneficialGear9355 remarked, “To be telling a guy that any sort of music is ‘not masculine enough’ tells you a lot about her.”
