Woman flew to LA after her marriage ended and a flight attendant pampered her throughout — but one quiet gesture meant more than anything else

Earlier in the flight, the cabin crew member offered to help her take the edge off, asking whether she wanted to get drunk.

When a relationship falls apart, a stranger's small act of kindness can mean more than they realize. Professional screenwriter Julia Yorks, who goes by @juliayorks on Instagram, said she boarded an American Airlines flight to Los Angeles carrying the weight of one of the worst days of her life. Sharing the experience on September 14, 2026, she said her marriage had ended, she had nowhere to go, and a friend had bought her a first-class ticket to help her get to Los Angeles. While flying, when she revealed for the first time that her husband had left her, the attendant looked at her and asked, “He left you? You’re so pretty.” She thanked her, joking that it must have been her personality. Soon, the exchange turned into a compassionate attempt by the airline to make the difficult flight easier.

The flight attendant wanted to pamper her and asked if she wanted to get drunk; she agreed, wondering if she had anything that would help her sleep. Within about 30 minutes, the passenger said the flight attendant had returned with a tray carrying white wine, a cup of Benadryl, and green tea with a little alcohol on the side. She even tapped the woman on the shoulder and told her not to worry because they would get her a wheelchair if she got too hammered, joking about having to wheel her off the plane. For most of the flight, the attendant sat in the aisle beside her, holding her hand while she cried; that mattered to her the most.

As the plane was landing, one of the other flight attendants stopped by her seat and dropped off a pair of wings at her seat. Yorks still thinks about that flight, especially the small gesture that brought a different kind of emotion to an already overwhelming journey. After everything that had happened, someone who had met her only hours earlier had found a way to remind her that she wasn't completely alone. She realized a person can walk into your life for only a few hours, help carry you through one of its hardest moments, and then disappear before you ever get the chance to understand how much that kindness meant.

Onlookers also wished they had a flight attendant like this in their own corner. @somerdice said, “Don’t worry, we will get you a wheelchair,” is the type of support I’m looking for. @kyra.hendrix.jones called her “a true girl’s girl,” while @daniellehuman, who is two months into a breakup, wrote, “I could really use that flight attendant today.”

Flight attendants sometimes go beyond their usual duties to comfort struggling passengers. In another case, after her father’s sudden death, Karoline Kinjorski (@bykarolinek) flew from Seattle to Michigan to be with her family. She asked a gate agent to seat her beside her boyfriend, and the airline upgraded them both to first class. Onboard, she asked for chamomile tea, but there was none. The flight attendant asked around until she found a tea bag and brought it to Kinjorski.
