Woman goes viral for recording how long it actually takes her to do tasks she has been delaying: 'Realest thing I've seen on TikTok'

It is not unusual for people to procrastinate on tasks that are either too boring or too challenging. However, a woman named Christi Newrutzen–who goes by @christinewrutzen on TikTok–is trying to show people how much time it actually takes to do tasks that she has been delaying for the longest time, which is eye-opening. Through a series of videos, she shared how long it took her to do different tasks and how long she had been delaying the same.

In the first video, Newrutzen shared that she wanted to spray paint a dresser and mirror combo in black for the past two years, but she had been delaying it because she thought it would take "forever." However, she spray-painted the dresser and mirror but didn't put a protective coat on top because she was too tired and didn't finish the mirror at that time. With her cats jumping on it and everything else, the table had gone through some wear and tear and she hated looking at it. So she decided to finally fix it and shared that it took her 23 hours to finish her work, along with the waiting time, but she actually worked for only an hour and four minutes.

Due to the popularity of her videos, Newrutzen turned it into a series called "How long does it actually take?" In another video, she shared how long it took her to clean her dishwasher filter, which she hadn't cleaned for a long time, along with doing her most recent pile of dishes. "I don't know how often you are supposed to clean a dishwasher filter, but it is probably more than never," Newrutzen joked. She would first have to unload the dishwasher to get to the filter. Along with cleaning the filter, she decided to do her dishes too. In the end, she said it took her a total of 26 minutes to load the dishwasher, unload it and clean the filter.

In yet another video, she tried to clean the garage shelves, where she rearranged them, as they had "never not looked like this." Newrutzen had decided to put everything on the shelves in boxes and clear out things she did not need. She loaded the trash in her car's boot space, arranged things on boxes and labeled them in an hour and eight minutes.

She also did two loads of laundry in one of the videos. Newrutzen had been putting it off for days. She shared that it took her nearly 2 hours to do the laundry and "7-10 days" to put it all away. In one of the videos, she shared how long it took her to clean her refrigerator vents. Her refrigerator broke due to cat hair and dust bunnies that had to be cleaned at least once in "six months." She said, "The condenser coils stopped cooling the inside, and now we have to purchase a new fridge." So, she wanted to see how long it would have taken her to prevent that. "The total time it took me to clean the coils that would have prevented my fridge from breaking was 24 minutes."

You’re inspiring." @schmadelions23 commented, "You inspired me to clear the leaves away from my front steps. I've been procrastinating it for four weeks. It took two minutes and 37 seconds." Another user remarked, "Hey, so your videos with these insulting finish times inspired me to organize my linen closet that I've been avoiding for 6 years. It took 20 minutes."
