Disputes over convenient seats are a common sight during travel. While a polite request may get you the seat you want, some people choose to display entitlement, which gets them nowhere. Threads user Mary, who goes by @maalnamaalkita, had specifically paid extra for a window seat so she could enjoy the island view on her flight from Puerto Princesa to Manila. However, when she saw a woman in her 40s refusing to give up her seat, she decided to ask the flight attendant to intervene. On June 11, 2026, the woman revealed the two words that prompted her to fight for her seat.

Mary never believed the frequent stories about airplane seat disputes until she experienced one on a flight to Manila. "I wanted to enjoy the island view one last time before leaving Palawan," she noted. However, upon boarding, she noticed a woman had occupied her seat. When Mary told her that she was in the wrong seat, the woman and her husband, who was sitting beside her, justified it by saying, "We're old." The remark did not sit well with her as she quickly escalated the issue to the flight attendant, who resolved the dispute.

Reflecting on the issue, the woman called out the passenger's entitled behavior and noted that travelers must pay for their own seats if they have specific preferences. "If someone paid extra for it, respect it. Apparently, 'we're old' is now a valid boarding pass," she expressed. Mary's post resonated with many internet users who sided with her.

@wenchie72 remarked, "You're old? Well, you should know your numbers and letters by now. Move." u/sparkles_mcsparky mentioned, "As an old person, I'm embarrassed by the sense of entitlement. I would have booted her out, too." @ginnygen54 wrote, "I'm 71 and am perfectly capable of getting up and changing seats. Plus, I am old enough to know better than to take someone else's seat in the first place."

Some people choose entitlement instead of politely making a request. In another story, one Reddit user refused to give up her Main Cabin Extra seat to a father traveling with his 6-year-old son. However, when the father accepted her refusal, the mother stormed over from her Premium Economy seat and began arguing with the woman for not giving up her seat. "(She) yells at me, saying that since I'm a mom I should be ashamed of myself," the female passenger noted. In Mary's case, however, before the couple had a chance to hurl abuse, she smartly asked the flight attendant to intervene. She handled the situation smoothly and ensured Mary got the seat she had paid for.
