Gratitude is something that is not just secluded to human beings. Even animals can understand gestures of love and respond with thanks in their own unique ways. A woman who goes by @capavo on TikTok revealed that she was rewarded with an adorable gift for her generosity towards crows. The woman had been leaving food for them on her mailbox and was stunned to see that they, too, had left something for her in return. Garnering over 247,000 likes and over 700 comments, people can’t get enough of the morale these birds showcased with their precious act of thanks.

According to the American Psychological Association, birds do possess some kind of understanding and intellect. Irene Pepperberg, PhD, an adjunct research professor at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts and researcher, shared some insight. Having spent nearly 5 decades studying gray parrots, she had much to reveal. She mentioned that the cognitive abilities of birds can be compared to those of children. While this varies for different types of birds, each type has a cognitive ability of its kind.

“We have to realize that what I do by comparing them to young children is to make it clear to humans how smart they are because humans only understand that kind of comparison. But think about the kinds of things that animals do in the wild and survive in the wild and all the techniques they use and all the different abilities they have,” she noted. The woman captured a video of herself taking boiled eggs to her mailbox. She walked over to leave them where she usually does. Before she could even leave the eggs there, she noticed something sitting on the stand of her mailbox.

She picked it up and realized that it was a sort of metallic charm. She immediately knew who it could have been from — her feathered pals. “This is so special,” she shrieked. With an unending smile and surprise, the woman gazed at the charm, which had a cute heart. Sure, it was not a new and fancy one but it was ever so dearly picked up by the birds for her. To think that they thought of getting something for the woman to appreciate her act is all kinds of wholesome. The woman placed the eggs in her mailbox carefully and walked away in excitement as she stared at the charm. “This is so nice!” she exclaimed once again.

“Can’t believe we had special gifts for each other at the same time,” she wrote in her caption. In another video, the woman shared the other bits of jewelry the birds had left for her. She also wrote in her comment. “It took them two years before they started bringing me stuff.” People were absolutely in love with the gesture and the gift itself. While many praised the birds for their smart and kind move, others offered suggestions on what the woman could do with the charm. @mezzofriend said, “You can turn it into a necklace and wear it. I think they’d like that a lot.” @mablehakamdbdnejen remarked, “Can you teach me how to form a relationship with crows? This is my dream.” @itslesliem joked, “I can just imagine the crows foraging and being like. ‘Oh, she’s gonna love this one.’”
