Woman politely rejected a date she found underwhelming — his ‘CEO’ response turned the rejection into a negotiation
The dating scene is getting more bizarre by the day. One of the major reasons is that people refuse to communicate clearly or simply cannot handle a straightforward rejection. A Reddit user, who goes by u/Girl_Bill, shared one such instance. As a woman above 50 years old exploring the dating world, she had to share her story with fellow women so they were aware of what to expect when turning someone down. In her post dated September 10, 2026, she explained how she was upfront about not wanting to take things further with a man. However, his entitled reply left her speechless.
The woman said the meeting was “underwhelming” and made it clear she wasn’t interested. He first said, “Astonishing.” “Straight in with what sounded like an appeal against the decision,” she remarked. What was even more frustrating was that the man took pride in his position as a CEO and believed that “negotiating contracts, closing deals and persuading reluctant stakeholders” were factors that gave him the upper hand in relationships. “These are not the skills to deploy when someone says they enjoyed meeting you but didn’t feel you were a match,” the woman clearly stated. The story didn’t end there; he decided to mansplain her own date to her and started listing reasons why she was wrong and that their date had actually done well. “Apparently, I had attended the same date but failed to interpret it correctly,” she sarcastically said.
After that event, the woman shared a public message in her post — women are fully capable of deciding what works and what doesn’t when it comes to finding a partner. And of everything, negotiation is the last thing they want to do in a relationship. She even noted that if the man really did have a good time, he could have simply said that he enjoyed the meeting, and then acknowledged her decision. However, he decided to try and use 30 years of experience in the business world to deal with matters of the heart. Redditors were convinced that ending things was the right move. u/EyeSarah1976 wrote, “Sounds like you dodged an astonishing bullet.” u/uncommon_denominat0r added, “Just imagine how he’d be during your first disagreement.” u/Ohnoanywayz remarked, “His arrogance is also astonishing.”
You can’t strategize relationships; they have to have a foundation of love, respect, and trust. It’s not a professional connection, and the distinction is required. In another instance, a man decided that a “review” was necessary to assess their relationship. He had seen theories on the internet where people talked about “value and ROI” with a partner, and decided to analyze his own girlfriend. According to him, their bond was like a “job,” and they needed to know where improvement was required. The discussion became more bizarre after he pulled out a list of errors she had been making, including “inconsistency in gym attendance and slacking on cooking meals.” The last straw was him stating he didn’t need a review because he was already doing a lot. The woman threw the report in the trash and said, “I’m your girlfriend, not your employee.”
