Barista ‘mansplained’ her when she insisted she wanted a cappuccino — then the next male customer ordered the same thing and his response stunned her
Despite progress, many women continue to face moments where their choices are second-guessed unnecessarily. TikTok user Rachel Aaron's (@rachelaaron_) experience at a cafe echoed a similar sentiment. A barista decided to mansplain to Aaron despite her insisting on ordering a cappuccino. However, when she saw another man place the same order, she was stunned to see how the barista reacted. Narrating the bizarre experience to her TikTok followers on January 10, 2026, Aaron expressed her frustration about living as a woman in a judgmental world.
Rachel Aaron shared that while she stopped by a cafe to pick up a cappuccino, the barista ignored her choice and suggested she order something he recommended instead. "The guy says to me, 'Are you sure you don't want any of our specials? You can get a cappuccino anywhere. You should try something different,'" she revealed. She stuck to her order as the barista prepared her drink. However, when another man walked in and ordered a cappuccino, the barista did not question him or suggest anything different and simply placed the order. This reaction from the barista stunned Aaron.
She revealed that while she was trying to place her order, the barista began explaining what a cappuccino was. But the man who walked in after her got his coffee without any question. "Why didn't you ask him whether he didn't want any of the specials?" Aaron said in frustration. Aaron went on to explain that the constant push to challenge women gets on her nerves. "Let me order my cappuccino in peace," she added, sharing that she would not be visiting the cafe again because the experience had been ruined.
Soon after she posted the video, it garnered so much attention from female viewers, who related to Aaron's experience. @LuuLew mentioned, "I'd say I was a barista for ten years and I don't need anyone to tell me what I should be drinking." @TellMeEverything advised, "You should absolutely talk to management and share your experience and tell them you won’t be back because of it." @la_nuit_noire noted, "They're trying to play on your emotions (because female) to manipulate you into spending more money, just like how Lyft drivers will tell you their sad life story about their 17 children in order to get higher tips."
Aaron's experience reminds us of the story of Lauren-Ann Graham, who was mansplained to by an employee at a car service center when she took her car in for servicing. Graham revealed that the employee mansplained to her about the car parts and their functioning. However, she wasn't going to have any of it. She immediately proceeded to reveal in a series of pictures that she was a proud NASA engineer who worked on far more complex machines than cars. She revealed the irony of the man mansplaining to her when she was literally a rocket scientist.
