Woman reveals 10 striking American habits that would 'have the French in a coma'
Each country has its culture, language, lifestyle, and preferences. Everything from the food and clothing to the type of living is different. It’s always amusing to see foreigners try different practices and embrace them as best as they can. A woman named Roya (@royaventurera) shared 10 distinct American things she believed would “put the French in a coma.” Starting with food, while the spice content of American food isn’t much, their herbs and seasonings are deliciously savory and can be astonishing for the French. “As a whole, the spice tolerance in France is way lower than anyone in the United States. I mean, God forbid I cook with any cayenne,” Roya remarked.
She revealed. to her surprise, that many of her friends thought that a simple black pepper was too spicy. Next, the woman pointed out that even the mugs and glasses Americans use for beverages and water are gigantic compared to what the French use. Roya proved herself right by revealing the broad mug she was drinking from. “This is what I'm currently using to drinking tea. But, I also regularly drink water out of a mason jar this big,” she said, showing an actual mason jar made of glass.
Up next, the woman spoke of the weather and how Americans aren’t fazed by the chilling atmosphere. “I can’t tell you how many times my friends looked at me in absolute shock and horror because it was maybe 50 degrees outside and I was wearing a skirt or a dress without any nylons, tights and no scarf,” Roya recalled. Next, the woman mentioned that the French are baffled by the idea of not being able to smoke freely in prohibited areas. “When I've told my friends who visited that they can't smoke within, like, 30 feet of the entrance to a building, they just look at me in horror,” she revealed.
For the fifth factor, Roya mentioned that the French are confused by the way Americans keep water running. “It's really common in France to turn the water off and on while you're in the middle of the shower or while you're washing dishes. Whereas, I think, it's more common in the US for people to just leave the water running,” she explained. The woman’s video received quite a buzz with over 220k likes and people asking for a part two. @eghaskell commented, “Part 2, please. Maybe a part 3 as well.”

In response to her audience, she added 5 more interesting facts about the American culture that left the French flabbergasted in a follow-up video. “A trip to Costco,” was the sixth point she mentioned. Elaborating further, Roya pointed out that American portions of items are comparatively larger than in France and supermarkets like Costco are known for their larger combo packages with value-saving deals and larger portions.
The 7th point was quite intriguing. Roya first mentioned how the French are particular about the glasses they use for wine and tolerate seeing a “stemless glass.” “So imagine if they try slapping the bag,” she added, referring to the popular American style of drinking boxed wine. Next, Roya spoke of the French being astonished about working in August. She explained, “French people get a minimum of 5 weeks of vacation a year if not 6 to 10. So a lot of the country will shut down for August.”
Moving on, the woman spoke about leaving lights on when you’re not home. Though a common practice in the U.S., she pointed out that the French are big on using automatic shutters for doors and windows to ensure lights can be switched off when not in use. Lastly, the 10th point that has the French puzzled is the ability of Americans to down a huge soda with ice. “The French are not a fan of cold drinks so this would just knock them to the ground,” she exclaimed.
This video, too, got an amazing response from the audience, crossing over 5,000 likes. People took to the comments section to applaud Roya for the accuracy of the video. @Kelly commented, My French boyfriend says 'We don't live in Versailles' when I leave the lights on. @victoriazibolt added, “It's done, my baguette and I are into a coma.” @brandygioia wrote, “This is hilarious, I’m obsessed!”
