A lot goes through the mind of a mother when she is pregnant. However, pregnancy has its own surprises that catch parents off guard in a unique manner. A mom named Kelsey Hatcher was set to welcome twins Roxi and Rebel, but not in the typical way one would imagine, per NPR. She welcomed Roxi on a Tuesday night in December and a few hours into the next morning came Rebel, via C-section, from a different uterus. The mom shared glimpses of her journey ever since she found out about her pregnancy, and it’s been a precious one.

Hatcher was a teen when she was diagnosed with uterus didelphys, also known as a double uterus. According to Mayo Clinic, a double uterus is when the tubes don’t join to create one organ but rather two separate ones. It is a rare case scenario and Hatcher’s story became a one-in-a-million one. While in some cases there can be two uteruses and one cervix, the mom has two cervixes as well. The pregnant mom of three soon discovered that her family of five was going to increase to a family of seven. "I gasped... We just could not believe it," she recalled, per BBC News.

The woman's pregnancy, known as a dicavitary pregnancy, is a one-in-a-million occurrence, reported the National Library of Medicine. Sharing in a post, the mom revealed, "What the heck?! How have we made it this far? And how are we so close? All the realities are setting in.” She even shared the ultrasound pictures in another post. “Our ultrasound estimated both girls are roughly 4.5lbs and growing perfectly! Baby A is sitting lower than Baby B, which is great because it looks as if they are lining up for delivery and won’t be fighting each other to deliver at the same moment,” the mom revealed. And right enough, things went as planned.

Hatcher’s obstetrician, Dr. Shweta Patel, who conducted the ultrasound, discovered two fetuses in two cervixes. “I had already taken care of Kelsey through her third pregnancy and knew she had a double uterus, but that was only one baby — two babies in two uteri were a true medical surprise," Patel remarked. There was confusion as to whether the babies were twins or not. Dr. Richard Davis, who co-managed Hatcher’s pregnancy along with Patel, decided to call them "fraternal twins.” "At the end of the day, it was two babies in one belly at the same time. They just had different apartments,” he remarked.

The family has been delighted with the news and shared it on their Instagram. When Roxi and Rebel were born, the mom revealed, “Our miracle babies were born!” She even added, “They decided they were rare enough statistically that they should just go ahead and have their own birthdays too.” The mom was delighted to share glimpses of herself holding both babies and taking in the best of the years. She also shared a glimpse of a family picture a few months later and wrote, “My perfect girls. These girls are growing amazingly! Twin life and mom of 5 has surprisingly not been as challenging as I expected so far!”
