Woman was asleep when 'a series of explosions' coming from closet woke her up—a pack of Pokémon cards saved her life

You might have heard stories of people saving the lives of others. But have you ever thought that your favorite collection or belongings would also play a part? Imagine having purchased something you love simply because of a fascination or as a collection, which ends up protecting you in the most baffling way. A woman–who goes by u/LolaInSlacks88 on Reddit–recalled the time her beloved Pokémon card collection literally saved her life. She heard a few explosion sounds and was struck with wonder and delight on realizing that a stack of cards kept her from a dangerous mishap.

She revealed in her post that she was suddenly woken up due to a “series of explosions.” “I live in the country, so usually these are gunshots being fired by our next-door neighbor, who doesn't use a berm or backstop,” the woman explained. She added that the noise seemed to be unusual and was supposedly coming from her closet, which had her Pokémon cards loaded in tins. “It sounded like something fell down in my closet, so I went to check and there was a hole in the wall that went into my Tupperware bins full of Pokémon,” she remarked. The woman finally figured that the neighbor had shot a bullet into her home.

“My neighbor shot a bullet into my house, and an Incineroar theme deck (a stack of Pokémon cards) stopped it,” the post revealed. The woman added that the “9 mm bullet was still inside the box.” Judging from the situation and the positioning of her home, the woman mentioned that the stack of cards was responsible for saving her life. “If it hadn't been there, it would have likely struck me while I was asleep as it was level with my bed,” she explained. The post also contained images of the event. The stack of cards had a visibly damaged hole and tear, along with other visible damage in the closet area.

In a comment, she confirmed, “This is 100% true, and I wish it wasn't. Reckless endangerment sounds accurate.” The woman added in another comment that things were being investigated and the neighbors had “stopped using the property as a shooting range.” Knowing her love for Pokémon cards, she eventually received a new stack, but was still in awe of the one that actually saved her life. “I'm okay, but I now count Incineroar as my guardian angel Pokémon and have never been happier to have piles of cardboard in my box. You never know, they might stop a bullet!” she concluded.

Fellow users and Pokémon fans were delighted to hear the news. u/PokePokeFacts wrote, “I’m going to show my wife this as justification to buy more. Just kidding, in all seriousness, so glad you are okay! That’s insane.” u/360_no_soap added, “Incineroar is somehow even more of a beast. Glad you’re okay, Pokémon is the best, ain’t it?” u/mechcity22 remarked, “Woah, that's horrific! But now you will never stop collecting Pokémon.” u/Dejonda added, “Pokémon saves the day and provides another solid point as to why you need to have an extensive collection!”
