Woman was being shamed for giving donuts to her kids for breakfast — then other moms stepped up with unbelievable response
When it comes to our kids, we want what’s best for them. Parents pick healthy food and dishes and make painstaking efforts to offer a balanced set of nutrients with every meal. A mom named Alexandra Sabol (@alexbabii97), however, shared a video of one of her breakfast plans for her 1-year-old — a plate of mini donuts. In a since-deleted video, the mom arranged bite-sized cinnamon sugar donuts on a plate, per TODAY. This video caught many people by storm and had them criticizing the mom. She received many hateful comments but in a surprising twist, fellow moms came to her rescue.
The mom had one goal in mind, to portray realistic motherhood. To show fellow parents that some cheat days, some ordinary and junk meals don’t mean the end of the world. "I kept seeing these pretty mom influencers who feed their kids organic food in pristine kitchens and I felt alone. I wanted to make content for moms who feed their kids like I do, or who aren't super skinny. I wanted to be relatable and transparent as a mom,” she noted. Unfortunately, many people took this in a negative light, focusing only on the fact that the meal was not 'good food' and was devoid of “nutrients and proteins.”
In all the harsh criticism, some moms rendered support. Many parents appreciated the raw reality the mom set before them. A mom, Bailey (@bmcpher), pointed out that while people look at the sugar in the meal, some parents are relieved to observe other perspectives from Sabol’s video. The mother pointed out that several influencers do barrage their toddlers with junk food but the same is glorified because they’re “skinny and beautiful.” She added that Sabol being ruthlessly criticized is only due to the realistic approach she took devoid of the editing, filters and dreamy visuals other influencers add. Bailey added that no matter what moms do, they’re out to be criticized and called out.
“What makes you a good mom is the image you bear daily,” Bailey highlighted. She added that she feeds her kids healthy meals most of the time. “Yet sometimes you know what [my daughter] eats? Cake pops, donuts, french fries, cookies because she deserves to live a little bit because sometimes while it's not the best, sometimes, moms, we're not at our best. Sometimes, we lack a little bit,” she explained. She went on to say that 10 seconds of a video hardly summarizes a person or family’s whole life. “If these people took 10 seconds to scroll through this woman's profile you would see she feeds her kid protein, fruits, and vegetables at almost every meal. You saw a clip of her life and thought you knew enough to judge her,” she added.

Moms added support for Sabol even in Bailey’s video. @celestrayanne wrote, “I can tell that mom is a warm, caring and good mother.” @thymeandtrenches remarked, “It’s so hard. I’m in trenches with picky eating. My heart goes out to her.” Another woman, Kim (@kimtheot), an occupational therapist who deals with picky eaters, shared a poignant perspective. She noted, “This mother has mentioned in other videos that she's had a lot of challenges getting her daughter to eat meat. This sets my brain thinking that there is a textural issue going on." The woman added that in such cases eating “healthy” food may not always be plausible. She concluded, “It is so important that we don’t shame parents because we don’t know the history with that child and parent.”
@kimtheot @Alexandra Sabol Eating is not just about the food. It’s also about: -the environment -the texture -the taste -the temperature -the presentation -the smell -chewing ability -relationship between child & caregiver -and so much more! @Alexandra Sabol I hope what I mentioned makes sense if you see this video❤️! #pickyeatingstrategies #pickyeatingtips #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #pickykids #pickyeater #pickytoddler ♬ original sound - Kim the OT
