Woman woke up in the ER after getting intoxicated at a club — but the cab ride home took a turn she never expected
Being a foreigner in a country can feel intimidating and lonely. With the lack of knowledge about the place and potential dangers, kindness from people is the only thing that helps us get through. A woman and Reddit user who goes by u/cosmic-hedgehog was devastated and paranoid when she woke up in an ER after learning that she had been drugged at a club. In her broken state, she managed to call a cab driver, Joe, who became the good Samaritan she needed that day. In 2021, the woman drink was spiked at a club. She was clueless about what happened when she found herself in the ER. Her belongings were gone, and having no idea about the language, the situation, or the people, she was terrified. She asked a stranger at the hospital to lend her phone so she could book a cab. When a taxi driver saw her, he immediately knew something was wrong. He took her to a gas station and offered her vitamin water, snacks, and a cigarette. He even drove her to the police station and assisted her in filing a report by translating everything for her. He assured her that whatever had happened wasn't her fault, and that he was a girl dad himself. Joe drove the passenger home safely and refused to take even a cent.
The gesture displayed by Joe left the woman emotional, and it restored her faith in humanity. "I think about him all the time and hope the universe rewards him for his kindness," she expressed. In one of the comments, she revealed that although the people who drugged her were yet to be punished, her encounter with the man became the positivity she needed. "I honestly believe that the experience with the cab driver was the only thing keeping me from completely losing it," she wrote. His approach teaches us the value of selfless and unconditional compassion for those in need.
The internet was proud and applauded the man for his gentle care. u/SatansWife13 wrote, "Wherever Joe is, I hope the universe smiles upon him. Wherever you are, I hope that she also smiles upon you and gives you all of the strength that you need." u/Bambiitaru commented, "Seeing things like this makes me still have hope in humanity." u/Indii-4383 expressed, "There's a lot of Joes out here. We're all we have. It's too bad you had this experience. Glad to know you're doing okay."
