Nobody wishes to reconnect with their ex-partner, let alone one from 10 years ago. But sometimes, digging a little deeper can reveal plot twists no one would expect. TikTok user Effy, who goes by @effyisevil, was confused when a mutual friend of her married ex reached out to her. According to them, Effy had been trying to "hit him up" for three years, which prompted her to dig deeper for the truth. As she narrated on TikTok with her followers on December 28, 2025, what she discovered was a truth about her ex's wife that left her stunned.

Effy was dating a 23-year-old when she was 18, but they broke up in 2016 after her father's demise. She hadn't been in contact with him for a decade and assumed he had moved on, since he had gotten married and had children. However, one day, she received a text from their mutual friend, who mentioned that "Effy" had allegedly threatened to self-harm and was pressuring him to confess his love for her. Confused, Effy asked for more details and learned a series of shocking truths. It turned out that in 2019, a burner account had been created by someone who catfished her ex by pretending to be Effy. The TikTok user later discovered that the person behind the fake account was none other than his wife.

Effy had no idea about it until it was revealed that the burner account had been constantly reaching out to her ex in the hope of getting back with him. "Imagine being insecure about your husband's previous relationship, and instead of letting that rock, you pretend to be the ex," she exclaimed. She also added, "He wasn't thinking about me until you made him." While such cases of insecurity among married partners are not uncommon, there is a clinical term for this behavior. Known as "retroactive jealousy," it involves an unhealthy fixation on a partner's previous romantic relationship.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, psychologist Chivona Childs noted, "It's about feeling envious of who they were, who they were with, or about a situation in the past before they were with you." Despite ending her relationship almost a decade earlier, her ex-partner's wife was still jealous of his previous relationship. Although the burner account shocked Effy, what surprised her most was the person behind it. While the wife's exact intentions remain unclear, the situation highlights how insecurity can lead to irrational choices and underscores the importance of trust in relationships.

Effy's video sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many users reacting to the situation. @Megan mentioned, "Not her spending more time on your relationship than her actual marriage." @bsquared remarked, "For six years!? How do people have this kind of time?" @chelseam expressed, "Girl, you live rent-free in both of their minds."
