We have heard many stories of people getting catfished, but have you ever wondered what it's like to be on the other side? TikTok user Kayy (@becomingkayy) narrated the story of how she catfished a man who already had a girlfriend. The man whom she met on a gaming forum was ready to leave his girlfriend for her until she saw an MTV trailer, which immediately led her to back out and disappear from the chatroom. Sharing the story with her TikTok followers on October 10, 2025, she revealed what made her stop fooling around.

Kayy recalled catfishing a 19-year-old boy many years ago. She revealed that they met on a gaming forum where she pretended to be a Caucasian girl from New York. He was head over heels for her and was even ready to dump his girlfriend. He also wished to arrange a webcam and send it to her place, unaware that she never lived in New York. He later convinced her to have their first phone call. However, before the day arrived, she happened to come across a trailer for the popular show on MTV, "Catfish." Realizing that she could also get caught some day, Kayy quickly deleted all her profiles and stopped communicating further in the chatroom, calling it her "freaking wake-up call."

Kayy quipped that the man may have thought that she died after she ghosted him and never reached out ever again. She apologized to the man if he ever came across the video and wished him well in life. For those unfamiliar, the popular MTV show followed hosts uncovering the truth behind suspicious profiles who were in relationships with real people. Each episode revealed whether the people behind the profiles were genuine or catfish, often bringing surprising twists. While Kayy's story evoked humor, creating fake profiles online to deceive people has deeply hurt many. People invest trust and feelings, assuming the person they are talking to is real; however, when the truth comes out, it often leads to heartbreak.

Soon after her video went viral, many users shared their thoughts. @Yahmina mentioned, "As a big 'Catfish' watcher, I never thought the other perspective would interest me heavily." @cantfeelnothing0 recounted, "I was catfished by two different girls when we were 12, then proceeded to become best friends in high school and university and we never talked about it" @user3034809176129 remarked, "In high school, I was addicted to catfishing, and then I fell in love with this boy, and when I told him I was a catfish, he obviously never talked to me again."
