2-yr-old saw baby brother drowning in pool without anyone noticing—his next move made all the difference

It takes a great deal of attention and sharp skills to keep an eye on kids, especially during parties, get-togethers and other functions. For a 2-year-old to do that and respond in time to save the life of his 1-year-old brother is unbelievable, per Scripps News. The family had gone to their vacation home during Christmas time when their toddler went missing. It was too late before they noticed, but luckily, the 2-year-old was already halfway into smart and quick action, acquiring help to save his little brother’s life. The family came together with their relatives at the vacation home to enjoy a pleasant time.

While the parents of the boys were tied up with the cooking and other preparations, others were also getting busy. There was an adult cousin and his wife playing on the back patio while the 6 and 7-year-old kids were playing in the pool. The 2-year-old had been by the pool and was playing with his ball. “I saw him inside a minute before it probably happened. I literally got out of the kitchen, went to the grill...and then boom, it happened,” the dad recalled. The mom added that the event was traumatizing to say the least. “He snuck somewhere to get past us. I didn’t see him. I don’t know where he came from,” the cousin noted.

The 1-year-old vanished out of sight and before anyone knew it, he made his way to the pool. Even the kids playing in the pool didn’t see the boy near the pool. Footage shared by the outlet revealed a few glimpses of the terrifying event captured by the camera. The next thing we know, the 2-year-old was playing with his ball by the pool and spotted his little brother sinking in the water. According to the World Health Organization, around 300,000 drowning deaths take place worldwide each year. Among children between the ages of one and four, drowning is the fourth leading cause of death. The 2-year-old didn’t skip a second and ran to the nearest adult — the cousin.

“(He) came and got me. He tugged my shirt hard,” the man recalled. The boy pointed towards the pool and gave the man an idea that something was wrong, per ABC Denver7. When he rushed to the pool, he saw the infant and rushed to get him out. “When I pulled him out, man, he was...blue. I think a couple of seconds more, he would have been gone,” he noted. The couple could be seen frantically trying to revive the boy through the footage before the emergency services were called.

He immediately performed CPR and within minutes, the 1-year-old was transported to the hospital. “I’ll never get that image of him out of my head,” the mom remarked. Though her boy is doing okay now, the event serves as an urgent caveat for families to be extra cautious with kids around swimming pools. The 2-year-old deserves applause for noticing his brother and saving his life.
