An answer to cries for help might come from the most unexpected places. A 19-year-old who was drowning in a lake because of a sudden leg cramp experienced just that. The man was swimming in the lake and all of a sudden, his leg cramped up. Soon enough, he was struggling to stay afloat and yelled for help as he started drowning. At the same time, the 13-year-old boy was passing through the area with his friends when he heard screams for help from the lake and went to check on the person. He noticed the man and immediately jumped into the water to help him. The teen was able to get him back to the shore, per the outlet. Soon enough, the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District and Lincolnshire Police Department arrived at the scene because they had been informed that there had been a medical emergency at the location.

Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Tyler Reynolds explained that the young man had already been taken out of the water by the time the firefighters got to him. He was lying on the grassy area near the beach, per Lincolnshire Deputy Police Chief Kimberly Covelli. He was eventually taken to the Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in an ambulance. The officials appreciated the 13-year-old for his efforts in the rescue and expressed that they were really thankful for everything he did to help the drowning man.

Many times, young teenagers step in to help people and save the day. A 14-year-old did something similar when she heard a scream while she was playing basketball. The teen girl, Nylah Bennett, was at the basketball court and immediately ran in the direction of the noise to check on the person, per NBC Philadelphia. "I didn’t know what was happening, but I knew something was wrong. So, I ran all the way from that basketball court over here. All I remember is, I just threw my phone and I didn’t stop running at all," Bennett recounted. She saw that a 9-year-old boy was drowning and immediately rushed to help him out of the water.

The boy was playing on a Burlington boat with his friends when the incident happened. "The boy slipped off at the end of the ramp and all I could see were his hands at the end of the waters." His friends had started screaming for help and fortunately, the teen heard it and came to save the boy. "I wasn’t thinking at the moment. I just knew in my mind he was drowning…I just dove right in there. When I saw all of the commotion, I wasn’t thinking anything other than… save that little boy." She reassured the boy and told him that things were going to be fine. A boat nearby noticed them and paddled towards them to help the teen and the boy come out.
