3-yr-old's mom collapsed after smacking her head on stairs—he saved her life using tricks he learned from a YouTube cartoon

The media children are exposed to can influence their development and learning, especially when they’re at a young age. A mom named Kayleigh is recalling the brave work of her son, Thomas, who came to her rescue after she suffered a fall in her home, The Independent reported. The mom hit her head on the stairs and was struggling to stay conscious. The 3-year-old had various obstacles, but managed to understand the severity of the situation and recalled a cartoon to act fast and get help in time. Recalling how the event took place, Kayleigh explained that she had gone up the stairs to fetch something when she fell.

The brutal fall was causing the mom to lose consciousness. However, little Thomas arrived in time and noticed his mom. He realized she wasn’t responding. He first went and checked on his mom by finding the keys to the stair gate and opening it to get to her. “My son managed to push a really heavy chair to the gate, climbed over, got the keys from off the pushchair, put the right key in the door, turned it and opened the door,” the mom remarked impressively. Recalling how he might have known which key to use, Kayleigh explained that she was always telling her son which key it was, and he might have remembered.

Once the 3-year-old realized that the mom wasn’t okay, he quickly recalled an episode from Robocar POLI — a cartoon about a cartoon police car, an ambulance and a fire engine. “He climbed up onto my windowsill in the living room to get my phone and he managed to phone the operator,” the mom shared. After dialing 999, the little boy did his best to explain to the dispatchers what was wrong. “They couldn’t understand what he was on about but directed him to the police," she added.

Head of Force Contact Andy Beard said call handler Morgane skilfully executed the call. He said, “The boy was clearly confused and worried but he’d done brilliantly at such a young age. Morgane built up a rapport with the boy, remained calm and reassured him right up till the point officers and the ambulance arrived to take over.” The West Midlands Police arrived at the home and Thomas did yet another brilliant job by going to the door and leading the officers to his mum. They comforted Thomas and assured him everything was fine while commending him for getting help.

The mom was treated for knee, ankle, shoulder and hip injuries. Recalling her son’s brave series of acts that got her help in time, the mom said, “Words can't describe it. I’m extremely proud of him.” Calling him a “mini superhero,” she added, “Especially for his age, it’s really amazing how he knew what to do and he understood.” As a parent, she wanted to share her son’s work so fellow parents know how important it is to prepare kids for emergencies. “It’s important to show them stuff like that so they can understand what numbers to call for help. If mum or dad in the family gets hurt and they’re on their own, they know how to stay safe and get help somehow,” she explained.
