4-year-old cancer patient had the most beautiful hospital 'wedding' to her favorite nurse
Having experienced the raw emotions of childhood, one may recall wanting to desperately marry their celebrity crush or favorite relative, long before knowing what marriage even is. Then 4-year-old Abby, too, had the plan to marry her much-loved and handsome nurse Matt at the Melodies Center at Albany Medical Center in New York, per CBS News. The little girl who had Pre-B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a type of cancer took a liking to her nurse who had been caring greatly for her with the rest of the staff. The toddler had one wish, to marry the nurse. Her wish seemed to be the most bizarre thing only till the hospital one-upped it by agreeing to make this a reality.
Right from a wedding attire, reception and rings, the staff and Abby’s mum had everything covered to make it a dream wedding. On the Facebook page, “Amazing Abby,” the mum had been documenting her journey throughout. She shared a post revealing the nurse as Abby’s “boyfriend,” and from thereon, the plans were clear. Very soon, the mum shared another post revealing the big day. “All week, Abby had been telling me that she was getting married this week. I asked her who and she said- ‘Matt.’” The mom explained that the girl was delighted to have the ceremony at the clinic and couldn’t wait to get there. On alerting the nurse, he played along with the best response possible.
“‘We're planning a wedding tomorrow.’ That was about all the information I got,” the mom revealed. A follow-up post revealed what took place next. A delightful ceremony with the 4-year-old dressed in the prettiest white dress and nurse Matt in his tuxedo t-shirt. The candy rings and all other details were a chef’s kiss. A video captured the procession, the ceremony and them sealing the deal with the cutest smiles in the presence of the staff and Abby’s family. The hospital staff pulled every string to make it a dreamy “wedding” for the little girl. The "Nick’s Fight to be Healed Foundation" also arranged a “First Dance” for the “couple,” to celebrate their special day and cordially invited others.
“It all began with a simple comment to her mom that Abby was going to marry Matt, her favorite nurse. Renee texted Matt and that sparked an event that would forever be etched in Abby's heart. She and Matt were ‘married’ at the clinic with rose petals dropped on the path, wedding march being hummed by staff, and bridesmaids leading the way,” the invite read. It further requested guests to join them in their first dance too. Words cannot describe the hearts of gold the staff carried for this little patient to make her dream a reality. The mom shared an update in 2020, revealing that Abby is doing much better healthwise and is home. However, she takes her marriage seriously and has been in touch with the nurse even after years.
The mom shared glimpses of Matt and Abby’s journey over time, the little girl growing up healthy and beautiful and the nurse by her side. She mentioned in the caption that the duo even celebrated their “5th anniversary.” Matt, too, shared a glimpse on his Facebook page. “They were unable to see each other today so they just FaceTimed and made future plans to celebrate. Abby is doing fabulous! She is thriving and enjoying her healthy life with her sisters,” she wrote. This is one bond that is going to go on for a lifetime, blossoming the little girl’s heart each time, thanks to kindness and love!
