5-year-old nonverbal girl with autism fell into lake — her 17-year-old brother’s quick action kept her alive until help arrived

Seeing a loved one fall into trouble in front of one’s eyes puts a person in serious worry. They would try to do their best to get help or to assist on their own to get the other out of danger. A similar thought process might have gone through the mind of a 17-year-old boy when his little sister fell into Lake Lisa Park, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office reported. The 5-year-old autistic girl went missing and deputies found her in a lake. Luckily, her teen brother worked astutely right from the time she went missing to find her and help before the officers arrived. His move kept her alive and safe until she was rescued.

A 911 call was received stating that the autistic nonverbal girl was missing, PEOPLE revealed. “Missing persons calls are one of the most common calls for service to the Pasco Sheriff's Office and they are treated with the highest priority to help safely locate the missing individuals,” the post mentioned. The officers hurried to the location to find yet another distressing detail. When they arrived, they were immediately informed by bystanders that the 5-year-old was in the water. Hearing this, the officer sprang into action and rushed into the water.

Fortunately, he spotted the girl and she was somewhat safe, all thanks to her brother. The 17-year-old rushed to her rescue and jumped into the water immediately to get hold of her. By the time the officers arrived at the location, he had already grabbed her and kept her on a nearby branch so that she was safe. It was a very terrifying surface underwater that they were on and the teen was unable to get out on his own. He bravely remained in the water with his sister at a safe spot until the officers arrived and took control. The daring footage captured the officers assisting the teen as he tried to get his sister out of the tangled branches safely.

With the officer right behind the 17-year-old, the duo began to slowly move the child to get hold of her and pull her out of the branches. The 5-year-old began giggling, unable to understand the situation. Regardless, the officer and the teenager ensured she was calm and composed and gave in to the lighthearted chuckle. The brother first took her hands and got them out so she wouldn’t get trapped or hurt herself and then, with the help of the deputy, moved her from the branches. The young man carried his little sister with one hand as the officer held his other hand and directed him back to land.

Luckily, both the kids were safe and uninjured. The visibly drenched and cold 17-year-old did everything in his power to keep his sister as dry and safe as possible. The officers commended the brave brother for fulfilling his duties exceptionally in the face of danger and keeping his sister safe. Had it not been for him, it is terrifying to think what could have happened to the little girl.
