6-year-old girl said ‘no’ when asked whether she’d like to date a doctor when older — who she instead named left her mom speechless
Children often surprise adults with their bold and honest answers. One mother recently found that out during a lighthearted chat with her six-year-old daughter, Ruby. The little girl was asked about her future and whether she might like to marry a doctor one day. Without any hesitation, she made it clear that it was not her plan. Her unexpected response left her mom stunned and amused at the same time. As reported by Newsweek, the brief exchange quickly gained traction online after it was shared in a clip on February 7, 2026, by TikTok user @app97xxx.
The video shows Ruby sitting at home in her pink pajamas, her arms folded as her mother, Abbie, films the moment. Abbie gently asks if she would like to date a doctor when she grows up. Ruby quickly answers no. When her mom follows up and asks who she would rather be with “when you’re a big lady,” Ruby replies without a second thought, “a gangster.” Her calm but firm tone makes the moment even funnier. Abbie, who lives in England, can be heard telling her daughter, “That’s not good,” clearly taken aback by the reply. Ruby, however, stands her ground and responds, “It’s my life, my choice.” The short clip captures both her sass and her strong sense of independence.
Abbie added a playful overlay text calling it “raising Ruby Kray,” referring to the infamous Kray twins. The brothers, Ronnie Kray and Reggie Kray, were well-known figures in East London during the 1960s. According to the London Museum, they built a criminal network based on fear and ran clubs and protection rackets across the city. Over time, they became linked with celebrities and were even photographed by the fashion photographer, David Bailey. In 1969, both were convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Today's kids are built differently, armed with sharp comebacks and fearless responses. In another recent moment, an 8-year-old showed she had the perfect comeback ready when her mom asked her to help take out the trash. Many parents try to teach their children about chores early in life, hoping small tasks will build a sense of responsibility as they grow. This mom had the same idea when she asked her daughter to pitch in around the house. Instead of saying a simple no, the girl paused and said, “Let me check my schedule.”
Her mother was surprised but waited as the child walked off and returned with a handwritten plan for the day. The paper, titled “Secule,” was filled with different times like 8.00, 3.00, 4.50, and several 5.00 slots. Next to every single time was one clear word, “Nope.” When her mom later questioned what she had planned at five, the girl lifted one eyebrow confidently and replied, “It’s top secret.” The playful little excuse clearly showed just how creative kids can be when they really want their way.
