8-year-old daughter learned mom was on her period—her handmade gift to ‘support’ her mother is literally a 'genius'

Many women are aware of the urge to want to be comforted and pampered during their period. Whether it's a bar of chocolate, a glass of wine, a heating pad or a hug, it can do wonders for some of us. It is also the time our hormones make us a little more sentimental, so any kind gesture is appreciated. A dad who goes by u/gianAB2977 on Reddit was thrilled to share how his 8-year-old daughter came through for her mom, who was on her period. The girl wanted to “support” her mother and her gesture in the form of a handmade card is as cute as it gets.

The dad revealed that the little girl was inspired after overhearing a conversation her parents had. “She overheard a joke conversation between mom and dad about a guy at work asking his girlfriend what he can do to support her during her period,” he wrote. The 8-year-old took heed of the idea and decided to try it in her own way when her mum got her period. “When it was mom's time, she jokingly asked me what I was going to do,” the dad added. She took it upon herself to surprise her mom with a genius gesture. The little girl made a card that read, “Happy Period Day.”

She also very creatively drew hearts and colored them in a pale red splash to presumably represent the blood. On the inside, the girl drew figures that represented a woman and wrote her mom’s name on the top. She also drew an indication on her skirt and wrote, “period.” She added, “Go gerl period. [sic]” Another figure of a woman had the words “period” written all over her. It’s almost as if she wanted her mom to be proud of her monthly cycle. Yet Another space had the word “period!” written as if she were congratulating her mom. What took the prize was her perfect pun that read, “I will spot you all the way.”

There were a few other doodles she made, putting in all her effort and love into them. She put all that she knew about periods on paper and it undoubtedly won the hearts of all. “She’s definitely a little character!” the dad wrote. People loved the idea and the support the handmade card offered. Many even commended the girl for her thoughtfulness and creativity. A few parents also noted the efforts of the dad to encourage her to support her mom and learn about periods. u/mommagoose4 said, “This is absolutely precious in the best way! You are a good human taking part in raising another good human! Gives us hope!”
