8-year-old felt conscious on having multi colored eyes and being called 'monster' — his mom knew what to do next

Having supportive parents who uplift and encourage their kids to be their truest selves has the most rewarding effect on a child. Mom Elizabeth Tyler (@_elizabethevan_) revealed that when her son, Liam, was worried about a unique trait of his, she had the most soothing response. The boy was feeling conscious of having heterochromia — multi-colored eyes. When the students in his class started making fun of him for this feature, all he needed was a simple yet powerful reminder from his loving mother to redirect him. According to the Cleveland Clinic, heterochromia is a condition in which a person has eyes of different colors. This could mean a different color in each iris or multiple colors in a single eye.

It is a harmless condition often caused by a genetic mutation. The genes direct the melanin, which is responsible for the pigment in a person’s eyes. The variation causes different colors, and it is nothing but a unique trait to be embraced, just like all other features. Tyler noted that ever since her boy was a baby, she had been educating him about his heterochromia and teaching him that it’s just another feature and that there’s nothing wrong with it. Speaking to her son, the duo revealed that Liam had sectoral heterochromia —  where the iris has one portion of a different color compared to the rest.

Liam and his mom both had blue eyes with sectoral heterochromia, causing a visible brownish pigment in one part of their irises. Tyler went on to note how the condition has been in her family, including her dad, herself, her aunt, cousin, and others, before getting passed down to Liam. She also shared a picture with her dad, giving us a glimpse of his heterochromia. In the photo, they're both flaunting their beautiful eyes and unique appearance. Moving ahead with the video, Liam's mom then engaged in a conversation asking about the boy’s experience with heterochromia at school. Liam revealed that while his experience is fairly positive, there are a few upsetting comments he received.

“They say I look like a monster. I look crazy,” he told his mum. Without missing a beat, Tyler said, “Absolutely not. You do not look crazy and you do not look like a monster. You’re unique!” This left Liam smiling ear to ear; it was the simplest assurance that reminded him that he was special and loved no matter what. “I’ve been teaching him about his heterochromia, not to hide it, but to understand it, love it, and be ready to educate others,” Tyler wrote in her caption. “Kids can be cruel but confidence is power. I want him to know he is fearfully and wonderfully made, just as God intended,” she added.

The mom shared another post with her son as the duo smiled with their multi-colored eyes, feeling empowered by the love and support they received. “Thank you guys for all the love! I’ve grown to realize that when I walk boldly in who God created me to be, it not only blesses my life, it inspires others to do the same,” she wrote.
