One of the saddening realities of today is that the older generation doesn’t resonate with the younger ones. Having had a completely different way of life, boomers and other older people are unable to relate to the struggles the current generations are facing. It often causes older people to misunderstand the millennials and Gen Zs but they’re not here to put up with it. A woman who goes by @coposit_street on TikTok conducts street interviews regarding finance. When she asked an 83-year-old about his tips for saving, she received an unpleasant response from the man. However, the young people openly voiced their opinions.

The woman approached the elderly man and decided to interview him to ask for guidance for the younger generations regarding finance. “I’m 83 years old and I have about $40,000,000 worth of assets,” the man proudly noted. When asked how he “accumulated such a large amount,” he responded, “Worked hard.” The man mentioned that he was a lawyer back in his days and had dabbled in other jobs too. When asked about the cost of living and how he gets by in the present, the man said, “It doesn’t worry us particularly.” However, the 83-year-old acknowledged that younger generations have it hard and are unable to get by with their current finances.

When asked about “tips or tricks to save money,” the man had an upsetting response. He said, “If you can do away with your cup of coffee and unnecessary things, it really helps.” He added that if you “don’t do things you don’t need to do and watch how you spend your pennies,” it could work exceptionally well. The man had much wisdom to share and much of his responses were not aimed at degrading the younger generations. However, his remark to “do away with a cup of coffee” upset the sentiments of quite a few young people. With almost 400 comments, many millennials and Gen Zs stood up for themselves.

They noted that the economy and several other factors are greater troubles than spending on a cup of coffee. The young adults were frustrated as the 83-year-old failed to relate to their financial problems and indirectly deemed them as the problem instead. @kerynbooker noted, “He didn’t get $40 million by not buying coffee or saving his pennies. He played the real estate game and cashed up.” @theworldhasgonemad added, “Imagine having $40 million and telling someone, ‘This is a rich guy,’ the key to wealth is not buying coffee…got it.”

@big_tonyg remarked, “Why is it that they always think that by skipping on coffee, people will suddenly have tens of thousands of dollars lying around?” @tomatogirl added, “The moment he mentioned coffee, he lost all credibility. Not buying coffee is not going to secure you a house.” @woooooohoooooo128 wrote, “Back in the days, it was about working hard, not working smart. Today, you cannot become rich by working hard.” @buildmontage said, “Coffee is not what is making youth broke. Rent, groceries, fuel, insurance, electricity, rampant government spending…how does one combat that?”
