A stranger asked a mom out in front of her 6-year-old son — and the little boy’s blunt response stopped him cold

The mother, who appears stunned by her son's response, is left chuckling as she asks her son why he responded the way he did.

Possessiveness isn't just limited to partners; kids, too, can be protective of their parents. When a six-year-old was shopping with his mother, Kia J. Brooks (@kiajbrooks) at Lowe's, a man approached her to ask her out. However, the kid's reaction left the mom in stitches and the stranger speechless. She posted the TikTok video on December 10, 2025, and the funny interaction has both the mother and online users chuckling.

@kiajbrooks Well, I went from crying to laughing tonight, real fast. 🤣🤣 A guy in Lowe's asked if I was married and all hell broke loose 😂. I don’t care what you’re going through; these kids are gonna always make you laugh, and as you know, AB is something else with no filter or fear. #MyBoy you got to love him,he’s a protector!! 🤣🎄#BoyMom #MyProtector #HeNotHavingIt #ChristmasTreeShopping ♬ original sound - Flau’jae’s Business Mom

Six-year-old boy AB and his mother were shopping in Lowe's when a stranger asked her if she was married. However, even before the mother could respond, her son immediately chimed in and displayed how possessive he was of her. In the clip, the little boy answered, "Yes, she is married. And you're not getting my mama." The mother, who appeared stunned by her son's response, burst out laughing as she asked him why he did that. "He was trying to get my mama. She's married, six years!" the kid exclaimed. The mother then said that she could speak for herself; however, he wasn't letting his mother deal with strangers on her own.

His next response floored her. "No, I'm just trying to let him not get you. You're my mama," he said. Kia can be heard saying, "This little boy here is a mess," to which he agreed. She shared the video and described her "perks" of raising a boy. Her caption read, "Well, I went from crying to laughing tonight, real fast. A guy in Lowe's asked if I was married, and all hell broke loose. I don't care what you're going through; these kids are gonna always make you laugh, and as you know, AB is something else with no filter or fear." As for the stranger, he was left equally stunned by the little gentleman's reaction!

AB's instinct to protect his mother comes from the analysis made in a 2024 study in Parenting Science. The study outlines John Bowlby's 1988 theory on "Secure Attachment Relationships," which makes children develop independence during infancy and helps them freely explore and socialize with others. The study highlights that during strange situations, children usually look out for their caregivers or parents, which translates to their way of protecting the people around them. When AB realized that he could "potentially lose" his mother when the stranger asked her out, his response reflects that instinctive need to protect her.

After the video gained traction, many users expressed their reactions in the comment section. @user86150173743 wrote, "He's running home to tell dad you're in trouble." @themariagalvez816 commented, "He refuses to be a child of divorce." @Angelbaby noted, "The emphasis on married took me out."
