Airport authorities stopped a woman despite passing the security check — the next check they ordered had her in disbelief
Airport security checks often leave travelers stressed during busy departures. A woman named Tanaïssa recently shared an experience that left her stunned after airport staff stopped her even though she had already cleared security without any issue. Airport authorities unexpectedly ordered another form of inspection moments later, catching her completely off guard. In a TikTok video shared on March 17, 2026, by @tanita.dee, she explained how the situation quickly became uncomfortable and difficult for her to process.
She revealed that the security guards told her they needed to search her hair for possible "dangerous substances." Tanaïssa explained that she had been preparing her belongings at the security area when a male officer repeatedly motioned for her to move ahead quickly, even though other travelers were still waiting nearby. A female officer then signaled her forward as well, so she walked through the scanner without hearing any alarm or warning sound. She expected to simply collect her items and continue toward her gate. Instead, the female guard stopped her immediately and began checking her hair bun in full public view near the crowded security line.
Tanaïssa said the situation felt “just insane to me” because nobody properly explained the reason before touching her hair. She questioned why officers assumed anything hidden there would not already be detected by the scanner. “What could I possibly hide in my hair that couldn't be detected by the machine?” she recalled asking afterward.
Many people consider respectful communication important during security checks because public treatment can deeply affect confidence and self-image. Tanaïssa added that if she had been younger during the incident, she might have stopped wearing her naturally textured hair in buns completely because of the embarrassment and emotional discomfort it caused.

She also wondered what could have happened if the machine had actually beeped during screening. Tanaïssa said officers could have asked her to loosen her hair instead of searching through it while everyone watched. A 2025 Pew Research Center survey also sheds light on her experience. It found that 74 percent of Americans believe Black people face discrimination, while 72 percent said Hispanic people and 66 percent said Asian people also experience unfair treatment in daily life across the country. Tanaïssa acknowledged that race may have influenced the incident because she noticed other women with larger buns were not stopped for similar checks during the same screening process.
The traveler described the moment as “a punch to my mental and self” because she felt publicly humiliated during the inspection. She said the blonde officer continued searching through her hair while the entire line waited and watched. According to Tanaïssa, the experience felt dehumanizing and lingered far longer in her mind than it likely did in reality.
She later texted family members to ask whether she was overreacting, but they agreed the treatment seemed unfair. She also shared that another friend who experienced a similar hair check at an airport was not white either, which further strengthened her belief that people of color are often singled out in such situations.
