Are Gen Z just young boomers? Study reveals they are a lot more similar than you think

With so much diversity among generations, one can not help but describe Gen Z as one of the most distinct bunches. Their ideals and lifestyle seem to be varied compared to older generations. However, studies are showing that this younger group might have a lot in common with the older generations, per Newsweek. Several things, such as their views on home ownership, relationships and other traditional patterns, are showing a surprising connection, especially to boomers. While many factors have influenced a change in thought and lifestyle, there are still a few pointers the younger bunch are still clinging to, per a study from Adolescent Content.

1. Family
In a typical belief system, many assume that Gen Zs prefer the solo way of life or are not keen on having children. However, the study revealed that 62% of Gen Z already have or want children. “None of it surprises me. But not because Gen Z is 'just like boomers,' but because they're craving stability in a system designed to keep them from getting it," generational expert Bryan Driscoll said.

2. Marriage and Relationship
Gen Zs are very much into monogamous relationships and even see marriage in their future cards. 83% of the younger people are keen on getting into serious, committed relationships like their older counterparts have enjoyed. It was noted that only 21% of Gen Zs believe that marriage is “irrelevant.” 94% of the modern group prefers offline relationships to online ones. Though they engage in dating apps and other contemporary terms, the goal for many is to find “the one.”

3. Career and Stability
Influencers and other professions of the like only account for 2% of the young population. A growing 67% of young people are bent on finding stability through hard-working jobs and careers, even in this economy. Just like the older generations, young folks hope to be stable but with a redefinition. A 22-year-old woman from Missouri explained that success for her is "being in a position where we can help our friends if they ever need anything without being burdened by it."

4. Homeownership
Rent is off the roof, and buying a house is a distant reality in today’s economy. Nevertheless, Gen Zs are hoping to someday find a home with their names on it. 65% still believe that owning a home can declare financial stability. This percentage is surprisingly higher than that of millennials and boomers, at 43% and 28%, respectively. However, this does not mean they want to be tied to one space. It is more about having the asset. “Gen Z doesn't want to be boomers, they want what boomers had access to—affordable housing, decent wages and a path to build a life without drowning in debt,” Driscoll added.

Michael Ryan, a finance expert and founder of MichaelRyanMoney.com, summarized, "While millennials often delayed or reconsidered traditional milestones like homeownership and family formation, Gen Z appears to be reclaiming these aspirations, but on their own terms. Gen Z don't just want a house, they want a sustainable home. Not just marriage, but equitable marriage. Not just children, but well-adjusted children in a financially secure environment.”
