The brain loves solving puzzles, even when half of the pieces are missing. So when you recognize a few words in another language, it tends to make up the rest of the story. TikTok user Cattien Le, who goes by @cattiiiieeen, called her Asian dad, who spoke little English, about her leaving the capital of Portugal, Lisbon. However, his hilarious misunderstanding left her baffled but also thankful. On May 30, 2026, the TikTok user shared how her dad's response made her feel proud of his support.

When Le shared her news, her dad immediately began thanking her for telling him and offered his support. The TikTok user, who was confused, asked why he was thanking her for telling him she was leaving the European city. That's when he revealed that he had misheard what she said and thought his daughter was coming out to him as a lesbian. She recalled her father saying, "I'm proud of you."

Although her dad was taken aback by what he misheard, he was supportive regardless. The father's innocent yet sweet misunderstanding left a positive impression on Le, who was surprised to learn that her father always had her back. The interaction between the father and daughter is proof that it is essential to encourage children and make them feel seen.

The hilarious exchange between the father-daughter duo left internet users in stitches, who shared their thoughts in the comments. @Hella Sober Babe wrote, "I knew instantly what he was proud of her for. I love him." @A J commented, "Okay, honey, don't take this the wrong way. They were waiting for you to come out because you are giving that energy, and your dad is the best because he will accept you regardless." @virginiaisbored noted, "As a Brazilian living in the USA, when you said the first time, I understood the same as your dad."

Not every person is fortunate enough to have parents who eventually come to understand and accept who they are. In another story, a Reddit user noted that her dad had put her in gay conversion therapy seven years ago. However, years later, he agreed to officiate her wedding to her wife. "I lost myself for a long time. It took 7 years to truly forgive my Dad (and myself) for being gay," she wrote.

She posted a picture of her dad helping her with her tie, which she considered a beautiful moment in her life. She revealed that although she held on to a lot of grudges and anger toward him for his initial reaction, she chose to forgive him and felt grateful that he accepted her for who she was. The wholesome moment between the father and daughter moved internet users to tears.
