At her wedding, dad opened a letter she wrote when she was 8—minutes later, everyone at the venue was in tears
The symbolism, the memories and simply the idea of one's little girl all grown into a young woman is profound. Brides and their parents want to celebrate this journey in a special manner. A bride, Katelyn (@katelynkwilder), and her dad decided to add a nostalgic touch to the big day by going back in time with a heart-melting letter. In a video shared by the bride, the dad decided to open a letter she wrote him when she was 8 years old. Saved for her wedding day, the dad was finally delighted to read the contents during the rehearsal dinner and the precious sentiments had us in tears.
When it was time for the dad to say a few words, he decided to add his daughter’s perspective to it with the help of the letter. As the bride and groom were seated, they were stunned to see him pull out a box of different letters. He mentioned that his little girl used to write to him — a letter for each occasion. Right from prom, dates and more, there was a letter for “When I get married.” Keeping up to his side of the deal, the dad never opened the letter until the day arrived. “I have no idea what’s inside. This could be great,” he said, as he opened the envelope.
As the man glanced through the baby's handwriting, he instantly went back to the time his daughter was a little girl. He got a little choked up but decided to read aloud. “I can’t thank you enough… for all the lessons, the memories, the memes,” the dad said. He continued to read Katelyn’s note that began with thanks for making her the woman she became. “There is no better person in the world to raise me. You set an example of how I should live,” he read. With tears now flooding his eyes, the man was finding it hard to read but persisted.
The then 8-year-old had already made her dad her role model and hoped that her husband would be “half as awesome as you are.” “I hadn’t read this, I hadn’t set this up,” the dad said, impressed with what was written. “What a heist,” he exclaimed, as everyone at the reception erupted in laughter. The letter concluded with Katelyn saying, “Words cannot explain how much I love you.”
The ending of the video captured a tearful glimpse between the bride and the father of the bride as she was all dolled up for her big day. “It twirls,” she said, with tears in her eyes, knowing she could go back to her dad just like she did for years as a little girl. People were in awe of the relationship the duo shared. @turki93aisha said, “When they hugged at the end…you really can see the 8-year-old girl and her daddy.” @gardenfeastliving said, “This is giving ‘Father of the Bride.’ You can tell she’s his little girl. I loved it.”
