Attorney claimed his client was too broke to pay child support—then quietly settled when the mom exposed what he was spending on
Evidence means everything when you’re calling out injustice, especially in a legal procedure. A TikTok user who goes by @pettybettybroccoli shared a post on March 15, 2026, about how her former partner’s attorney was threatening her to settle for less money in child support. The mom was representing herself, and the lawyer thought he could take her for a ride. Unbeknownst to him, she had a single bit of proof that was enough to win the case. When he proudly said he could “show” his client was “broke,” and couldn’t afford to pay, she defended herself with a confident and bold stance that deserves applause.

The woman explained that she was representing herself, and the attorney was trying hard to get her to take less money than she and her child were entitled to. He even went as far as to threaten to take her to court if she failed to comply in mediation. She didn’t back down and stuck with her demands. The lawyer was pleased to inform her that he had ways to prove that his client was on the verge of eviction and was broke, and so affording child support was out of the question. He flaunted that he had evidence from the last 9 months. To his surprise, the mom clapped back, saying she had statements of his bank accounts showing “weekly massage parlor” transactions worth $125 each.
There was no way the attorney could fight that, and the mom won the case, with the amount she demanded. Though the incident took place a while ago, she is still proud of it to this day, and always goes back to it when she needs a “good laugh.” A lot of mothers are struggling to make ends meet due to absent fathers who refuse to even contribute financially. According to the Urban Institute, there are around 11 million dads who do not live with their kids in the United States. Out of these, two-thirds do not pay child support. Data from the Rubinstein Firm showed how the lack of this contribution can significantly affect the custodial parent and the kid's upbringing. Out of 49% of parents who have the custody of their children, around 30.1% are living in poverty.
Statistics from Lending Tree showed that it costs a solid $303,418 to raise a child over the span of 18 years in the U.S. It’s almost impossible to do it on a single income while managing other expenses. Yet, so many go without this financial help from their former partners. This mom, however, refused to comply and smartly acquired evidence in due time to ensure she received a just settlement. Her request to the internet, don’t be afraid to “call them out.” Commenters were super proud of the woman. @rshackleford69 wrote, “I love this. You should demand an increase of exactly $125.” @mnbeekeeper remarked, “You should be an attorney!” @ohthatjenny said, “You absolutely won in more ways than one.” @chichsmitty commented, “I love us, women are the best!”
