Birthday girl gets a surprise gift from stepmother — when she looks inside the bag, she breaks down
Having a step-parent or a step-child can make a person feel mixed emotions regarding their family dynamics. While both groups may love and accept each other as their own, society may tend to differentiate between biological and step-parents. Nevertheless, when a parent’s heart holds love for their child, they’ll make ends meet to deliver and express that love. Brigitte Fries, stepmom of little Haley, had unconditional love for her little girl. No title could measure how much her stepdaughter meant to her. The stepmom planned a special birthday party where she gifted Haley the most precious thing in her life, per Parenting Is Easy.
The woman shared a glimpse of the experience on YouTube and it’s a tear-jerking core memory for the duo. Fries got Haley to sit at the center of the party and decided to present her birthday gifts to her. She had quite a few gifts to present, each being things the girl cherished. The first item was a colorful stuffed toy attached with balloons. Haley looked at it in awe and was feeling immensely delighted. Up next, she pulled out a bag with a necklace in it. The stepmom knelt in front of her as she helped her undo the wrapping to open her gifts. She looked at the necklace and asked Haley to read it, “What does it say?”
“My daughter holds my heart,” the little girl replied. Pausing to look at Fries, Haley was immediately overwhelmed with assurance from her stepmom. “You hold my heart,” she said. The birthday girl was on the verge of tears, already flooded with love. However, there was just one more special gift awaiting her. The stepmom presented her daughter with a certificate and asked her to read it aloud. Unsure what to expect, the girl began reading, “It is in the best interest of Haley that this child should be adopted by her stepmother. It is in the best interest of Haley that the name of the child is to remain the same,” she read.
As she was reading, she slowly realized that she was no longer a stepdaughter and Fries was no longer her stepmother. The duo had been legally bonded for life. As soon as Haley read the next line mentioning Fries has all right to her as her kid, she broke down in tears. Looking at her tears, Fries, too, began bawling her eyes out. The duo shared a long embrace, celebrating their togetherness. “I love you, Mom,” the little girl remarked. This moment of victory came after a long struggle and fighting for Haley’s custody and that’s what makes it all the more relieving.
“We had been pursuing the court system for 5 years to gain permanent custody. After a long journey, I filed for adoption and one year later, it was approved,” the mom wrote in the video's caption. @twilightbsg3897 wrote, “Such a beautiful moment. Got me crying!
