Copycat friend pressed for her baby name ideas after they got pregnant at the same time — so she pulled one simple name prank and got the last laugh
Taking inspiration is always appreciated unless it leads to blatant copying. A woman who goes by the handle u/Flaky_Zebra4038 on Reddit, suspected her friend to be copying whatever she did. When her friend insisted on knowing what she'd name her baby, she decided to pull a prank that confirmed her suspicion. Sharing the bizarre yet funny story with fellow users on February 26, 2026, the mom revealed her surprise when the brilliant prank worked.
The person who wrote the original post had a friend who often copied whatever she did first. Since both the women got pregnant at the same time, she noticed that her friend had been oddly buying anything that she'd buy for her baby. "There were just a few things I would have liked to be unique to my child but she ordered the same when seeing it on my story and acted like it's a coincidence," she noted. During one of their conversations, her copycat friend pressed her to know what she was naming her child. However, she let her friend know that she had a couple of options, but is yet to choose one. Having noticed her unusual behavior lately, she wanted to test her suspicion. She informed one of their mutual friends a fake name she was planning to give her baby, and to her surprise, her friend indeed named the baby after the made-up name for the prank she had pulled.
"But with slightly different spelling, like 1 letter difference," she revealed. She noted that she was obviously not going to give her baby the fake name, however she expressed her surprise over her friend's behavior. The post gained over 6,000 upvotes with many users expressing their concerns over the friend's unsettling behavior. Many urged her to cut ties with the other person in question. u/Due-Cup1115 wrote, "I'd be genuinely concerned about this person being near my child. They're a little too unhinged and could try something stupid. Please reconsider your relationship with this person." u/Inner-Confidence99 commented, "Good for you!! You saw the signs. She's going to be pissed when you have your baby and announce the name."

This mom's petty revenge reminds us of another Reddit user, u/GlitterFaes, who was often called "ugly" by her friend. The mean friend bragged that even if she left her with her boyfriend, she was confident he wouldn't cheat on her, because "she wasn't his type." However, one night when her boyfriend and her friend struck a conversation, romance brewed between the two, as he finally dumped her toxic friend for the Reddit user. While her friend often said that no man would ever want her, she is now married to her friend's man.
