When couples break tradition, they create memories that stick with guests long after the big day. For one Australian couple, even a car wash became part of their wedding journey before their big Bali celebration. Kerby Ng and Joyce Cheh had an unusual story that later surprised their loved ones. As reported by PEOPLE, their journey included a surprise on November 30, 2024, months before their main event on August 30, 2025. They chose to keep that moment private at the time.

The surprise was that they had already gotten legally married during that visit to the car wash. The ceremony happened inside their vehicle, with only two friends present who had no idea what was about to take place. Ng explained, “We were already engaged, but we had to sign mainly for legal purposes.” He said they did not want this step to take away from their main wedding, so they kept it quiet and waited to share it later.

Ng wanted the legal step to feel different and personal instead of formal. “I thought of a car wash because we already knew we were going to have a more official ceremony later on,” he told the outlet. Their friends, Karen and Daniel, were told it was just a normal outing. As the officiant began speaking, they slowly realized what was happening. One of them reacted, “What? Wait, are you serious?” which added laughter and surprise to the moment, making it truly unforgettable and joyful for everyone present. He believed choosing such a setting would make the signing fun, unusual, and unlike anything others would normally plan.

The ceremony was brief and unconventional. The officiant had to raise his voice over the sounds of water and machines as the car moved forward. The couple exchanged rubber ducks instead of rings, keeping the mood light. Moments like these show that meaningful events do not always need perfect planning or grand settings. Sometimes, small and creative choices can make memories more personal and lasting, leaving a deep impact on everyone involved.

Almost a year later, the couple revealed their secret during their Bali wedding celebration on August 30, 2025. Guests watched a video that told their story and included clips from the secret ceremony. Many were surprised and amused, and some said only this couple could plan something so unique. "My mother yelled at me for not telling her, but in a funny way," Ng commented.

Surprising wedding guests is apparently not unusual, as another couple managed to pull off a memorable twist during their ceremony. Riley and Isaac Anastasiu, both weighing 215 pounds, decided six months before their wedding to adopt healthier habits together. “We realized we weren’t feeling our best physically or mentally,” Riley said, explaining their motivation. They focused on steady progress rather than quick fixes, aiming for confidence and lasting memories. “Wedding photos last forever,” she added, showing their commitment. By the big day, Riley weighed 175 pounds and Isaac 160 pounds, leaving their guests stunned.
