Dad yelled after his son offered a delivery driver $400 for a $21 pizza — his next words brought the man to tears
Every person has a silent struggle they carry, and that’s why extending kindness makes a difference. Facebook user and dad Derek Lipp shared a post on July 4, 2026, revealing how he had the opportunity to share one such gesture with a delivery driver. His son, Dawson, opened the door to collect the pizza they had ordered, and the boy tried to give the worker $400. Seeing him, his father came out immediately, yelling at him for a reason no one expected. After hearing his words, the employee was overwhelmed with emotion.
Dawson met the deliveryman, who told him his total was $21.34. Without skipping a beat, the boy handed him $400. The worker was confused and raised his hands, stepping away from the child. He knew the kid had made a calculation mistake and wasn’t aware of the high amount he was giving away. Despite Dawson’s insistence, the employee refused to take any cash until an adult intervened. That’s when Derek came out and yelled at his son. “How much did he give you?” the dad asked the driver. He replied, “$400,” adding that he didn’t take it because he knew there was some mistake. “$400?! I told you to give him $500,” the man remarked.
As the delivery driver stood confused, Dawson removed yet another $100 and added it. The dad confirmed that he was out to do a good deed and wanted to bless someone with the money. The employee broke down, profusely thanking the customer. He explained that he was going through a tough time. He had congestive heart failure and kidney failure, and was awaiting a kidney transplant. “So everything helps,” he added. The dad then went on to give a second driver extra money as a tip for another delivery. He also revealed that he was “on the verge of losing a lot.”
Clearly, every person is going through something. We might not be able to shell out money all the time, but even simple gestures and the smallest acts of help can make a difference. Viewers took to the comments section to share their opinions. Tiffany Tyme said, “Kindness pays. You made his day.” Jacki Buzzard added, “Sweet tears over here.” Elaine Militello Franklin applauded the first employee, saying, “And he’s working! With all the health issues.”
A helping hand from someone who understands pain can provide hope in ways words sometimes cannot. In another instance, a delivery woman experienced a similar blessing around Christmas. She returned to the customer, Kelly, a day after delivery, and told her that she might have been overcharged. She explained that an extra $130 had been charged to her bank account. Since she had no other way to clarify the payment, she returned the next day to speak to the customer.
Kelly asked her whether she had received the extra amount from her company, and when she confirmed that she had, she told her, “That was for you.” The woman had deliberately tipped extra via the app, but what she never expected was for the delivery woman to lose sleep, wondering if there had been an error and to return the next day. Grateful for the money, she gave her a big hug. "In this time of need, how amazing it is that someone would go out of their way to try and make things right,” the customer noted.
