Daughter living in LA told dad she missed Ohio autumns—his surprise package 2 days later stunned her
When you feel homesick, you miss the little things. The noise, the weather, that one eatery or a simple glimpse. Liv Miraldi (@livmiraldi), a musician who moved from Ohio to Los Angeles, had been missing home and the soothing autumn in her hometown, PEOPLE revealed. When she broke the news to her dad, he knew he wanted to do something special to ease her feelings and give her a little bit of home. He decided to send her a package and the unbelievable yet tear-jerking contents hit right in the feels. Miraldi shared how everything about her career is all about making people feel at home.
“I’m grateful to get to work all over the world. But at the heart of it, I’m still that girl from Ohio who just loves telling stories through songs,” she said. Someone who loves home so much surely reminisces about it being miles away. For Miraldi, her parents, grandparents and the weather are what she misses the most after having moved. “Those chilly mornings, and of course, the changing leaves. Fall in Ohio is so gorgeous and colorful. My favorite part was always having bonfires with friends and family and baking pumpkin bread with my mom,” she nostalgically recalled. When autumn came around this time, she was missing home a little more than usual.
During a casual chat with her dad, she happened to ask whether the leaves had started to change color. She then proceeded to tell him that she missed being home and reminisced about all the little things. No less than two days later, she saw a package standing at her doorstep. Sent by her dad, she was confused but also eager to see what it might be. To her surprise, it was a box full of autumn leaves, with their crisp, bright colors and a feel that came straight from Ohio. To others, it might be scrap or just leaves. But to Miraldi, it was a piece of home right in her arms. Along with the package, the woman also received a text that read, “I sent you a package as a joke, but I was motivated by your comments about autumn. Have a great day. Love, Dad.”
Miraldi was overjoyed to also find a pack of caramels inside the box. “It smelled like a little piece of home for sure. It definitely took me back to playing in leaf piles with my dad as a kid. He loves yard work, so I have such fond memories of being outside with him,” she recounted. Pondering how he might have come up with the response, she credited his sense of humor. “I pictured him going to the post office, all giddy to send me his box of leaves. We were laughing so hard we started tearing up,” she revealed. In a follow-up video, Miraldi saved the memory by putting a leaf safely into a transparent frame.
People were touched by the dad’s gesture. As Miraldi guessed, “This whole experience really made me zoom out and appreciate my dad’s presence in my life. I know his little pranks are his way of saying, ‘I’m thinking about you, and I love you.’” @paintedbybabich said, “One day, that leaf will mean more than you can imagine. So lovely.” @elsaismine3 added, “I’m still thinking of this. Such a beautiful gesture of love.”
