Deaf woman signed to girls at a coffee shop about the phone they left behind — one girl’s response confirmed her worst instinct
Life is not the same for people with disabilities, as they go through endless struggles daily for basic activities. What one can do for them is be patient, understanding, and treat them equally. Unfortunately, a few struggle to be compassionate, and there have been several instances where individuals have shown that they lack values. Something similar happened to an Instagram user named Rach, who goes by @suchalovelyred. Rach, who is deaf, uploaded a video on Monday, September 7, 2026, in which she shared her experience of reminding a group of young girls about the phone they had forgotten, but the response she received proved her intuition right.
In the video, Rach expresses that she is never embarrassed to use sign language because she is deaf, but she also admits to feeling hurt when people mock her. She recounts that during a recent visit to a coffee shop, a group of young girls in front of her in line forgot their phone on the table. Using sign language, she informed the girls about the forgotten phone, and they retrieved it. However, what happened next completely shook her. One of the girls from the group mocked Rach's sign language with bizarre hand gestures.
This unexpected behavior from the young girl left Rach deeply upset. She pointed out that she is a grown adult woman and is confident in her identity as a deaf person. She shared that using sign language in public is not a problem for her. Rach even emphasized that deaf intuition is real. When the group of girls collected their forgotten phone, all five stared at Rach. She noted that she locked eyes with the girls right after helping them, only for one of them to mock her for being deaf. While the girls' actions hurt her feelings, she remains proud and unbothered. She ended the video with a message for the young girls: "Do better."

Incidents like these remind us of the importance of instilling good values in children to prevent them from becoming ungrateful and unempathetic individuals. In another story, a technician ignored a deaf person's request for assistance. The deaf person went to a pharmacy and requested a technician to write down her questions as he couldn't hear. The female technician ignored his request and continued repeating the questions orally, asking the man his name and date of birth.
As the man couldn't lip-read, he struggled to understand the worker's questions. A woman then intervened and called out the female technician for not accepting the man's request. The woman then opened her Notes app on her phone and asked the man if he needed help by writing in the app. The technician then realized her mistake and communicated with the man in writing.
