Dogs are renowned for their remarkable sense of smell. However, they may still surprise people with their abilities. So two sisters traveling on a train were pretty surprised when a stranger's guide dog sensed the pregnant sister and came up to her. The woman, Danni Benattar, captured the adorable moment between her pregnant sister and the guide dog in a video. She shared the clip on TikTok, where she goes by @dannibenattar and the internet couldn't stop gushing over it. The brief moment received over 6.5 million views on the platform.

"When a guide dog senses your pregnant sister," the text overlay of the video read. The dog carefully sniffed at the seated woman as she avoided touching the dog on duty. Once he could confirm that the woman was indeed pregnant, he adorably snuggled her belly with his head. In a comment, Danni shared, "My sister was nervous about distracting the dog as the owner said, 'Please don't stroke him, she was being cautious and was nervous!" The sister, Paige, who goes by @travelsbypaige on the platform, explained, "I wanted to stroke him so bad. But you're not meant to stroke working/guide dogs. He loved chilling on my lap the entire journey."

Paige added, "The dog was obsessed with me. It was so lovely, but I felt rotten not being able to pet him. But glad he was still on guard for his owner." The caption read, "We don’t deserve dogs." Even though many people in the comments section had experienced something similar, dogs might not necessarily be able to detect pregnancy, per WNCO. Kate LaScala, a certified, professional dog trainer, explained, "But, dogs, with their strong sense of smell, can detect changes in mom’s smell as she moves through her pregnancy and many dogs are sensitive to changes in appearance or gait."

Phil Tedeschi, Clinical Professor and the Executive Director, Institute for Human-Animal Connection, University of Denver, pointed out, "To dogs, we are our scent—and olfactory recognition is the primary way that most dogs know us. This capability is so sensitive that dogs can tell time through their capacity to smell how long ago you may have last been home." Nonetheless, people in the comments section of the video absolutely loved the interaction. @miiirtiii wrote, "Aww, doggie is like, 'Listen, I know I'm not allowed, I'm at work and all that, but (whispering) did you know you have a baby in there?'"

@guidedogsuk commented, "Such a gentle moment. She's respecting his space and the owner's wishes, which is exactly what a working guide dog needs." @re_becky88 remarked, "When I was pregnant with my son, I worked at an OBGYN's and was rooming a patient who was a trainer for service dogs. She had a golden retriever 'teenaged' pup (all legs and no coordination, lol) with her for training and he spent the whole time I was in the room with them lying with his head on my feet. She was like, 'He knows he's in work mode and this isn't something I've taught him.' Made me cry."
