Elderly man correctly guesses a pregnant woman is having a girl — his explanation for how he knew leaves her too stunned to respond
Pregnant women expect strangers to question them about their journey after looking at their belly bump. However, there are certain approaches to take when making such inquiries. A woman named Molly Rasanen, who goes by @mollyrasanen on Instagram, revealed what she called the “most diabolical” thing that was ever said to her during her pregnancy. In her video shared on Friday, September 4, 2026, she recalled an older gentleman approached her at the restaurant and asked if she was having a baby girl. When she said yes, he shot back with a remark that left her speechless.
The woman was grabbing a quick lunch with her family after a hectic day. She was tired, overwhelmed, and hungry. As she waited for her order, the elderly stranger asked if she was having a baby girl. When she said she was, he responded, “I could tell because they steal your beauty.” Rasanen was taken aback. She got a hold of herself and asked, “Are you calling me ugly?” To this, he had a worse reply. He told her he was certain she was “hot before,” but “this is what girls do to you.” She was so shocked by the words that she couldn’t say anything back to him. She laughed nervously and left. In her caption, she mentioned that the man made one more remark before she could leave. He casually shared how his daughters “tore up” his wife during childbirth. Knowing that a husband and girl dad was so insensitive about such topics felt worse.
Rasanen went home and cried, but being the empowering and resilient mama-to-be that she is, she was back in her element. She even shared a few savage comebacks she thought of later, which included, “At least I’m pregnant, what’s your excuse?” and “I had way too much; I’m happy to give her some.” She also shared a message with fellow pregnant women — “You are the most beautiful, exquisite, magical creature that exists on this planet.” Commenters were livid, adding that his words were unacceptable to say under any setting, let alone during pregnancy. @amykscher asked, “What’s wrong with people?” @priairie_air added, “The audacity! You are gorgeous.” @sarahmccowan remarked, “Straight to prison.”
The amount of changes a woman’s body goes through during pregnancy and childbirth is unfathomable. It is truly commendable that they are resilient through all these stages, no matter what. Yet, society is bent on its picture-perfect perception, making reality seem like it's abnormal and ugly. In another instance, a postpartum mom received a rude comment from an elderly gentleman at the grocery store. While shopping with her 1-year-old, he told her, “Hey, thanks for having a baby and not getting fat." She instantly called out the comment. However, when the duo met at the checkout section again, the man insisted that he was trying to compliment her. She clearly stated that such remarks are far from impressive and are sexist and weird. She went on to share what he said with fellow shoppers. Seeing their judgmental looks, he quickly fled.
