We often hear the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover," but in reality, people make snap judgments all the time. Whether it is based on appearance or clothing, assumptions can be unfair and, sometimes, completely wrong. One biker in Canada experienced this firsthand in 2013 when a family at Tim Hortons dismissed him as a "dirty biker" without knowing anything about him. Instead of lashing out, he took to Facebook and delivered a response that earned him praise from all around. In his post, Luc Perreault explained that he had stopped at Tim Hortons for coffee when he smiled at a little girl.

But instead of returning the kindness, her mother quickly pulled her away and said something he would not forget, "No, no, dear, we don’t talk to dirty bikers." Perreault, who embraced his rugged appearance, decided to set the record straight. Later, he shared a message on Facebook addressing the family. "To the family in the red SUV at Tim Horton's today," he began. He further wrote, "Yes I am a big 280 lbs guy with motorcycles and full of tattoos, I am a welder, I am loud, I drink beer, I swear and I look like I would eat your soul if you stare at me wrong."

Then, he revealed, "What you don't know is that I have been happily married for 11 years, my kids call me daddy, I am a college graduate, my mother is proud of me and tells everyone how lucky she is to have such a wonderful son. My nieces and nephews are always happy to see their m'noncl Luc. When my daughter broke her arm, I cried more than she did." Perreault challenged the stereotypes people attach to those who look like him, saying, "I read books, I help people, I go out of my way to thank war veterans and I even cried at Armageddon."

And then he said, "So next time I smile and say hi to your little girl and you grab her and tell her, 'No, no dear, we don't talk to dirty bikers,' remember that even though you hurt my feelings this 'dirty biker' would be the first person to run into your burning house to save your little girl's goldfish so she wouldn't be sad!" Perreault's words hit home for many, and the comment section was filled with support. Monique Thisdelle Jeanveaux wrote, "Awww and wow, the nerve of some people!" one person wrote. Jim Maverick Morrison added, "Well put, brother. I'd still back you up any day. You are a good man. Take it with a grain of salt because it's their loss. Glad to call you a friend and brother."

Kiki Godin commented, "You tell them, Luc! You're an awesome guy. There's nothing you can do about stupid people, I just feel bad for the way they are raising their children to judge people before getting to know who they really are." Luc’s wife Suzelle Perreault also chimed in, "Awwww...and yes this is why I love my husband!" Perreault later responded to the overwhelming support in the comments, saying, "To all, thanks for the wonderful words, I always knew there were great people out here, but I thought in 2013, the stereotyping was a thing of the past!! Thanks again, guys xoxo."
