Losing a loved one is never easy, but some goodbyes hurt more than others. A 33-year-old woman recently shared how her mother, who battled stage 4 cancer with unwavering determination, left a final text message in the family group chat before passing away. The woman, u/southpawshelby, took to Reddit to share her mother’s story. She explained how, despite the devastating toll of cancer, her mom remained strong and independent until the very end. Unlike her late father, who passed from cancer in 2020 after becoming lethargic in his final months, her 58-year-old mother was lucid enough to send one last message to her loved ones.

"My mother battled stage 4 cancer vigorously until the end and went out in a blazing fury," she wrote. She explained that her mother had made a firm decision that she didn’t want visitors during her final days, choosing to preserve her dignity in such a vulnerable state. But even in those last moments, she found a way to let her family know just how much she loved them. At 5:27 PM, she sent a message to the group chat, "I’m going to Heaven. I love you all." The responses flooded in immediately. Her daughter wrote, "We love you too momma. I will miss you every day I breathe and think of you everywhere I go." Her sister followed, "I love you sister with all my heart. Rest peacefully."

Then, a heartbreaking message from her parents, "We love you our daughter, we always have, we loved having you close by and spending time with you. Love you, dad and mom. Now you will have peace and rest and make a place for us when it is time for us to go see you in heaven." Another family member added, "I love you so very much!! We are all going to really miss you! I love you more than you will ever know!" Reflecting on the moment, the user shared how grateful she was to have had the chance to say goodbye, even if it was through a screen. She concluded, "Thank you technology for allowing us to say our goodbyes."

She also opened up about how her mother’s strength never wavered, even when she wasn’t feeling well, she still made time for family. She wrote, "My mom was a strong and feisty lady, she did family dinners, went out with us even though she was not feeling good." With both her mother and father gone at just 58 and 51, the woman was finding it hard to navigate what it means to be without them. "I'm not really sure what I'm going to do in this life without either of my parents but I have two younger sisters to look after," she said. But she found some comfort in knowing she still had her maternal grandparents.

As the post circulated, people sympathized with messages of support and admiration for her mother’s final act of love. u/sffood said, "Christ, why is this so sad and so badass at the same time?! Sorry for your loss, OP." u/Spirited_Touch7447 wrote, "What a gift to have such a lovely last moment with her! She’ll be waiting for you!" u/ksullivan03 added, "I am so glad she was able to text you. Sending love." u/Nonethelessersoulgem commented, I’m tearing up. I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope she’s resting easy now.
