For kids, making friends can be as simple as striking up a conversation on the playground or over text. But for one 8-year-old, the rules set by their parents came first, even if it meant politely declining a request for a chat. A recent post by mom @Bae_Z_ on X captured an unexpectedly wholesome exchange between two children, where one had to refuse a conversation because their moms weren’t acquainted. The screenshot of the conversation shows the child explaining the situation with remarkable politeness. The caption of the post reads, "Kids are so funny to me because why is this such a sensible conversation between 8-year-olds."

The woman's daughter picked all the right words to explain why she couldn't talk to another kid over text. "I can’t talk to you anymore because my mom doesn’t know your mom and I’m not allowed to be on the phone with people who my mom doesn’t know. Sorry," she wrote in a neatly structured message. Instead of reacting negatively, the other child simply replied, "Ok." Realizing the message might have come across too abruptly, the daughter quickly followed up with "Sorry." to which the other child responded in the kindest way possible, "It’s ok, she is just trying to keep you safe from strangers." At the end of the chat, the girl thanked the other kid for "understanding" her stance. "You are welcome," the kid replied.

The wholesome and sensible vibe of the kids impressed many online, with the post racking up 5.9 million views on X. It was re-shared on Reddit by u/pasjojo who applauded the duo for their respectful demeanor. u/ExpendableBear said, "These 8-year-olds are more respectful and understanding than most adults." u/ScottyShouldofKnown added, "Both parents have raised really sweet and respectful kids. You did good OP this is so funny and wholesome!" u/face__Hugger curiously asked, "Are they boys? That's exactly the answer my son would have given at that age if he was caught off guard. He doesn't talk much, so his first reaction is always one word, but he would have written the kind one, too, after the second 'sorry.'"

u/inkfanatic95 commented, "You know what’s sad? This kid handled this more maturely than some grown men and women who would’ve flipped their sh**." This story shows how kids, even at a young age, teach us how to be kind and thoughtful.

In a similar story,  a dad received two drastically different notes from his 5-year-old son just 10 minutes apart. The first, scribbled in a child's handwriting, read, "Wost dad en the world. I dot iven luck you (worst dad in the world, I don’t even like you)." Only 10 minutes later, the dad received a second note with a completely different tone: "Sryye sryy, I did not men to be men to you (sorry sorry, I did not mean to be mean to you)."

The dad explained the change in tone. He shared that his son had been upset because "I read something to him instead of slowly sounding out the sounds for him to read himself." Wanting to encourage independence, he had simply told his son to take a little space to calm down. The 5-year-old took the message seriously, so much so that he even refused to play with his favorite cousin for a few minutes, telling them he needed some time alone. "I didn’t intervene since they were handling it fine," the dad wrote. "He reset and was great the whole rest of the day." The dad's response was called an example of good parenting by many people.
