The florist immediately judged him when he revealed who the flowers were for, but he had the perfect reply.

People in same-sex relationships can sometimes face judgment or unequal treatment because of their preferences. A Reddit user (u/penguin-boy15) shared an experience from the time he visited a florist to buy flowers for his boyfriend. At first, the florist greeted him warmly, assuming he was purchasing flowers for a girlfriend. However, her attitude suddenly changed once she realized the flowers were intended for his boyfriend, and she then refused to sell. Just before being asked to leave the shop, he responded with a question that highlighted the woman’s double standards.

The man explained that the woman initially welcomed him with a smile and even asked enthusiastically, “Aww, are they for your girlfriend?” He paused for a moment, unsure whether to correct her, and chose not to respond at first. However, he soon felt compelled to be honest and told her that the flowers were actually for his boyfriend. The woman reportedly disapproved of his response and told him he was “too young for all that.” However, the man remained calm and questioned her confidently, “How am I too young for a boyfriend but not for a girlfriend?” That was the moment the woman got “angry” and decided not to sell him any flowers.

According to him, the woman said that she would not sell him flowers as “it’s (homosexual relationship) not normal." The young man was then “kicked out” of her shop and decided not to argue further. “I was already mad, and it wouldn't lead to anything. I don't care, I can just go somewhere else,” he wrote. However, he was still left disappointed knowing that the flowers his boyfriend loved were available at that particular store and were rarely found anywhere else. The woman’s sudden shift in attitude, followed by her anger after seemingly having no response to his question, revealed her homophobic bias and double standards toward relationships.

Commenters quickly supported the man and apologized for the discrimination. One of the users, u/matt314159, wrote, “This pisses me off so much, I'm sorry dude. Your boyfriend is lucky to have somebody as thoughtful as you!” The woman's decision not to sell him flowers symbolized that he treated her differently and unfairly. Another user, u/belrieb6773, highlighted the fact and wrote, “That’s discrimination. Name the business.” Some people also suggested leaving negative reviews for her shop online, if it was available, so they could be called out aloud. “That’s shocking. I’d be leaving a bad review for that business, as petty as that may seem; that’s unacceptable,” added u/Electronic_Can9105. Life can be full of frustrating experiences, but giving a confident response and moving on is just about the most mature and best approach to take.
