Former congresswoman Mia Love battling brain cancer shares uplifting open letter to America in final days

If you had to leave a message in your final moments, you would choose to leave the most impactful message to those who matter the most. Former Utah congresswoman Mia Love chose to share a poignant message to the citizens of America in her final days, per PEOPLE. Love has been battling brain cancer and after a deterioration in her health, she chose to bravely address the country in an open letter with a heartwarming and strengthening message. The former congresswoman was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2022. Her family recently shared the news that she was losing her battle with cancer, per KSL News Utah.

In a post on X, Love’s daughter, Abigale, posted on her mother’s behalf. She said, “Sadly, her cancer is no longer responding to treatment and the cancer is progressing. We have shifted our focus from treatment to enjoying our remaining time with her.” Accepting her fate, the politician confidently made a public address to America, per Deseret News. Her letter is a compilation of love, hope and inspiration for every citizen. “I am taking up my pen, not to say goodbye but to say thank you and express my living wish for you and the America I know,” she began writing. She continued with a note of thanks to the medics and all who contributed to treating her over the last few years.

Love said her years as a politician “provided me a front row seat and backstage pass to be blessed and inspired by the courage, vision and hope of America’s finest daughters, sons and citizens.” She mentioned that she hoped the contents of her letter would become an “enduring wish” for all citizens. Love looked back on all life’s experiences, including those of her loved ones and shared what she learned about America from them. Starting with her immigrant parents’ strenuous efforts, which gave her a trait of the country.

“The America I came to know growing up was filled with all the excitement found in living the American dream. I learned to passionately believe in the possibilities and promise of America,” Love said. The former congresswoman continued, “When tough times came, they didn’t look to Washington, they looked within. Because the America they knew was centered in self-reliance.” Diving into her own life, Love noted how the people of America were “giving.”
“The America I know gives back. Americans, regardless of financial status, are the most giving people on the planet. I’ve experienced this generosity throughout my life and during my battle with cancer. I am so grateful,” she remarked. The further contents of her letter pointed out, “The America I know makes tough choices, doesn’t make excuses, is grounded in gritty determination and is simply great.” Each claim she made came from a firsthand understanding through her personal learnings throughout her life, from the lives of influential people and even laymen.

While coming to the concluding portion of her letter, Love shared all the things she hoped for the country. “The goodness and compassion of the American people is a multiplier that simply cannot be measured. The America I know is built by citizens and leaders who respect, strengthen and serve each other. The America I know will continue as long as each of us simply remembers that this country is exceptional — because it is! I know it is!” she remarked. Finally, the former congresswoman wrote, “My living wish and fervent prayer for you and this nation is that the America I have known is the America you fight to preserve.”
